I have a laptop, a desktop at the office and a desktop at home. When I turn on Outlook, mail automatically downloads on the computer I'm using. Is there any way to stop mail downloading and 'sync' info between all 3 computers?

Hi all, in an effort to organize the sheer volume of email , I have a separate folder for each client or transaction. How do I copy just that one folder to a CD or flash drive so that I can then archive it on my computer. Plus, on archiving, I notice that when it auto-archives it does NOT delete any of the mail it just archived (it seems like it would make sense to do so) plus my archive folder is actually missing an INBOX, so how do I create a new archive folder and make sure its backing up my inbox archives.
</p>
<p>
I really need a good clean up utility as I just have too many mails, too many folders and no way that I know of (yet) to get rid of them out of my inbox views :) HELP!

For some unknown reason, about five days ago Outlook 2003 began to reject pictures/graphics in incoming messages. Instead, I get a red "X" inside a place-holder box. If it means anything, I'm using Word 2003 as my editor.
</p>
<p>
I checked the Tools>Options>Security settings and the "Don't download pictures..." box was unchecked; could find not setting which should prevent downloading images in E-Mail. Tried checking the box and saving and then reversing the operation without success. I tried a registry hack suggested by someone in another group, but that did nothing. Doing a Detect and Repair will probably be next, but I'm concerned that will do nothing except cause me to lose some other settings, contacts, folders etc.
</p>
<p>
Any other suggestions?

I just "inherited" a Dell PC that has Outlook 2003 on it. I set up my email accounts but... when I click on "Send/Receive" I get a warning message "The operation failed. An object could not be found". Naturally, I don't have an Outlook 2003 disk to reload the program!

<p>
Hi Everyone:
</p>
<p>
I'm having some Outlook issues today. First, I'm getting this message when I want to empty my deleted items folder:
</p>
<p>
"The file C:\Users\evelowe\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst is in use and cannot be accessed. Close any application that is using this file and try again. You might need to restart your computer."
</p>
<p>
When that message appeared, I was in Outlook trying to delete messages, so I quit and restarted my computer. No change. Same message when I tried to delete messages.
</p>
<p>
Second, I did a search for a contact and got this message:
</p>
<p>
"There are 264 items in the deleted items file. Cannot display the information. There is either a problem connecting to the server or an error occurred. Try starting Outlook again."
</p>
<p>
So I did that, but the problem wasn't resolved.
</p>
<p>
Third, thinking Microsoft.com would provide relief, I did a diagnostic check in the MS help menu which told me the problem could not be fixed immediately, but that I could go to "https://watson392.watson.microsoft.com/dw/CwRedir.asp + a whole string of numbers that went on for four lines, but Safari couldn't open the page, so no resolution there.
</p>
<p>
I will go back and reset my browser to Explorer and try again, but don't suppose that will change anything.
</p>
<p>
Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on here? Have you had similar problems and how did you deal with them? I'd appreciate whatever assistance you can give.

Hi Larry
</p>
<p>
Great to see a place dedicated to Outlook issues!
</p>
<p>
I was having a problem with the Autocomplete feature in Outlook 2007. It would remember e-mail addresses and automatically suggest them when entering in the To, CC, or BCC lines, after entering that e-mail address once, as it should, BUT, it would forget all of them once I shut off the PC.
</p>
<p>
I made sure Autocomplete turned on, etc etc.
</p>
<p>
After fishing around on the web for an answer, and not finding one, I did get an idea how and where Outlook 2007 retains the setting and decided to try my own solution.
</p>
<p>
First, I shut down Outlook AND Internet Explorer. If you do not, you won't be able to do the following
</p>
<p>
Then, I navigated to
</p>
<p>
C:\<strong>Users</strong>\<strong>username</strong>\<strong>AppData</strong>\<strong>Roaming</strong>\<strong>Microsoft</strong>\<strong>Outlook</strong>
</p>
<p>
Once there, I renamed "Micrsosoft Outlook Internet Settings" to "Microsoft Internet Settings Old."
</p>
<p>
I then restarted Outlook 2007, and sent an email to myself on another email account as a test. I then composed another email and Autocomplete worked and my email address was suggested.
</p>
<p>
To check to see if this really worked, I rebooted the PC, opened Outlook 2007, and tried addressing an email to my other account, and Autocomplete worked, and still does.
</p>
<p>
I then visited C:\<strong>Users</strong>\<strong>username</strong>\<strong>AppData</strong>\<strong>Roaming</strong>\<strong>Microsoft</strong>\<strong>Outlook</strong> and saw that a new "Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings" folder was automatically created.
</p>
<p>
It seems that a file called "nick" (nickname?), in the folder Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings, may have been corrupt and the root of the problem.
