Help - While trying to send a huge attachment in Outlook it got stuck!

Some email messages can get stuck in the Outbox for several various reasons.  The most common cause is when the email is very large (several megabytes).  Most of the time this is due to a large attachment.

One thing I would like to point out here.  This isn't a problem caused by Outlook.  This is a problem with your email provider.

When you try to delete the message from the Outbox in Outlook, you may encounter errors like “Outlook is transmitting the message” which is what has probably made you crazy.  So if you have an email stuck in your Outbox and you can’t delete it try the following:

1.  Go to the File menu and choose Work Offline.

2.  Close Outlook and re-start it.  It is a good idea to open your Task Manager and verify that Outlook is no longer running.  After Outlook re-starts you can go to the menu and verify that there is a check next to Work Offline.  This will stop Outlook from trying to send email.

3.  Now select Outbox.

4.  Select the stuck message and delete it.  You can also drag it to your drafts folder if you want to save it.

5.  Go to the File menu and unselect Work Offline.

There are some occasions that the above will not work.  There are a few other things you can do to try and fix this.

A.  In Outlook's Send and Receive settings, select Show Progress.  Now click the Send/Receive selection and then Cancel it.  You should then be able to delete the message.

B.  File, select Work Offline. Close Outlook, restart (if necessary, go to task manager to close down Outlook processes). Go to Tools, select the account in question. Go to Tools, select Options and then email options. Deselect the checkbox "automatically save unsent messages." Now go to your Outbox and delete the email. Go back to Tools and reselect "automatically save unsent messages." Go to File and deselect Work Offline.

C.  Right-click the Outbox's message and click "Mark as read".  Now you can just simply delete it.
