Where else in the world can you be on a gorgeous beach during the day and enjoy the theme parks and the nightly activities of Orlando all in the same day? The answer is the Gulf Coast of Florida cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Bradenton and Venice! All are within a short one to two hour drive to Orlando.
I want to write about one of my family's favorite beaches in Sarasota: Lido Beach. We also love to go to Siesta Key Beach, Coquina Beach and a few others which are nearby but almost always go to Lido Beach. This is just our personal choice. We love to look for shells and we have found some of our best shells in the area at Lido early in the morning. We also like to wander the streets of St. Armand's Circle after the beach and maybe get ice cream or stop for a meal at one of the incredible restaurants on the circle. My "boys" are not shoppers so most of the time, I drool as I walk past all the clothing shops wishing I had the time to wander through them and shop. They do permit me to wander through a few of the gift shops if the shop has something they can look at too. I've bought pictures, gifts and all kinds of treasures in the shops. And, we always bring our visiting family or friends to the area. It was built by John Ringling as a shopping area for his wife who was used to the great shops of New York.
If you continue past Lido Beach and the public beach area, you'll come to the end of the Key where there is a public park for picnics or just enjoying the views. There is also an area to park your car and launch your kayak or canoe. This is a very popular place to kayak as the "trails" to follow are surrounded by mangroves. You can paddle through to the Intracoastal Waterway. If you get a chance, rent a kayak and check it out! It's a great adventure and way to spend the day on the water without owning a boat.
NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY! Come to Sarasota and explore Lido Key - by beach or by kayak! Visit Sarasota and discover YOUR Florida lifestyle.
