Honor the past - Plan the future

It is fitting that in the same week that a statue is erected to honor the founder of The Woodlands the citizens have elected to become a new entity separate from the city of Houston.

I know that it will make my life a little easier as a real estate agent when I am trying to explain the fact that although the community of The Woodlands is larger than most of the dozens of "real cities" within a few miles - it is not a city. In fact, for years it was forbidden for the community to set themselves apart from the Houston metropolis and become independant.

Blame it on the ETJ (Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction). It is a complex law that I do not completely comprehend, but it provides rules for non-annexed portions of the area that must be complied with for permits and development. It can slow the process of any building or business because of the levels of red tape. All that will soon be simplified - I hope!!!

According to the Houston Chronicle George Mitchell said at the dedication, "You know you dream about something and get a lot of people to match that dream and make it their own and you do great things and lots of monumental things. This is a great honor for me."

Mr. George Mitchell, we are honored to live, work and play in your "Dream World". I cannot imagine it being any better than it is right now. Generations will marvel at what you had the vision to develop...what a legacy!!!!
