What To Do On Hilton Head Island, Part I |
Wow! When I started add this entry I thought it would be fairly simple to talk about what to do on Hilton Head Island. I quickly realized that there is far too much to do to cover in one entry. Hilton Head Island is not just your average vacation destination. Nor is it a retirement community. Hilton Head Island is, by far, the greatest place you can live!
Let's start with some basic demographics. There are approximately 39,000 residents on Hilton Head. Of these, 70% are under the age of sixty. In fact, our largest segment of the population (18.2%) is under the age of 18. Our median age is 35.4 years of age. Betcha didn't know that!
Another misconception people have about Hilton Head is that it is a "Southern" town. Geographically, yes, we are in the south. However, most people who live here are from other areas of the country. Many are from somewhere east of the Mississippi River. The states that most people move to Hilton Head Island from include New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland and Ohio.
A side note: None of these people have shoveled any snow while on Hilton Head!
Speaking of snow, the weather is definitely one of the reasons many people choose to live on Hilton Head Island. Our climate is considered semi-tropical. Our annual averages are: Daytime temperature of 75 degrees, evening temperatures of 55 degrees, ocean temperatures of 69 degrees and monthly rainfall of 4.12". These are, of course, averages. We do have our hot days in the summer! But most importantly, we DO NOT have very cold days in the winter. You can leave your furs and ski jackets in storage! There are very few days cold enough that I would not play golf. Even if it is chilly, those days pass very quickly into more mild temperatures.
