The recent article in the U.S. News & World Report that chose Columbia, South Carolina as one of the 10 best affordable places to retire only told half of the story. The article focused mainly on downtown Columbia, Five Points, and USC areas of Richland County. There was no mention of anything that might attract a retiree to Lexington County.

Lexington County, just across the bridge from downtown Columbia has literally thousands of housing options for anyone relocating to the area. The options run the gambit from affordable age qualified patio homes like Agape Village in West Columbia to million dollar mansions on Lake Murray.

The on-going development of the river-walk greenway, a walking, biking, paradise that meanders for several miles through ancient flood plains along the banks of the Congaree River in West Columbia, and Cayce is a favorite area for young and old alike.

The development of the greenway has spurred a lot of new growth in the area. New neighborhoods have sprung up to take advantage of the recreational opportunities offered by the location. A typical morning might find a new resident taking a brisk morning stroll among the incredible scenery and wildlife along the river.
