Coon Rapids Tornado

I just witnessed the tornado that went through Coon Rapids MN. I was in my back yard weed whipping and it was getting very dark and eerily calm. I stopped for a minute, looked straight up and saw a streak of green across the sky. I looked out at the southern horizon and saw clouds moving up towards the storm. My neighbor ws on his deck and asked if he just saw a tornado. He said yes, so my wife said to get in the house.

My sister called from up North and asked if we were ok. We had no damage at the time and she thought we should check on my Mom's townhome. She was out of town for the weekend for a wedding. On the way over there we saw the path  of the damage starting just south of 125th and heading East-southeast. My mom's house was fine. I knew my wife's friend Kathy lived near the path so we drove over to check out there home. Most every tree in their yard was down with a few on the home.

Just then a 2nd wave came through dumping marble to dime size hail. We drove to a nearby gas station to get under the awning. The truck may have taken some damge to the roof. I shot a few photos of the hail and the storm cloud after it calmed down.

Last Sunday i had been in my office for about an hour, throughout that time, I had a horrible headache, migraine like that had just come on. I generally don't get these types of headaches. I went to the kitchen and notice the sky getting dark, but with a greenish, gray tinge to it. My husband, son, and his friend were having a bonfire outside. I said to my husband from the sliding glass door, you guys better get in. I got the two boys in and requested that they pick up their toys. In the meantime, (which I did not know) my husband was putting out the fire with water. Within 5 minutes, I looked outside at the sliding glass door, and it looked like "smoke" was swirling around by the door, I said to my husband "Shawn, did you put the fire out?" As he was saying yea, I get closer to the sliding glass door, what I noticed was NOT smoke, but rain, mist, and small debris swirling around in our backyard. I told the boys "We need to get to the basement" We went down there, and within two minutes the sirens went off. We live on 111th Ln and Foley, only a few blocks north of us the Tornado ripped through. What surprised me the most that day, and what I have learned 1. keep the t.v, radio on for severe weather ( we did not) 2. don't rely on the sirens to go to the basement, that thing was on us before those sirens went off. We had another round of storms, with lots of hail, rain and wind. My headache was gone too! I believe the headache was from the barometric pressure in the atmosphere.
