Are Your Prospecting Calls Repulsive?
Think of yourself as a magnet and watch to see what is drawn to you and what is repulsed. You are always either attractive or repulsive. Over the last couple of weeks, I've written in general terms about how important your vibration and attitude are to drawing to you what you want. It's an interesting truth that just taking actions does NOT produce results unless there is a strong relation to your values. The inspiration and motivation come from those values, not from just randomly doing "stuff." That is why some people can seemingly be successful in an effortless way and others seem to work very hard and not have the results to show for it.
Let me give you a specific example. How do you feel about making prospecting calls? Let's take a little test:
Score on a 1-10 with 10 being Love it and 1 being Hate it:

There is no right answer. This is an awareness exercise, so you can see what your feeling is about each group. To examine it further, let me share a few things I have learned from experience.
-
A very few of you scored high on all of these. You are the true wackos! Just kidding....this is usually a very small percentage of very self-disciplined or self-motivated people. And the fact is, the more you do it, the easier it gets and the better you get at it. The better you get at it, the more fun it is, because you produce more results. That's when you start attracting people, because you are having fun and they aren't repulsed worried that some stranger is trying to con them.
-
Some of you were higher with the strangers, FSBO's and Expireds and lower with your sphere and friends. You enjoy building your business and don't mind making the calls, knowing you have nothing to lose. The more training and skill building you have done, the easier these calls get. But when it comes to calling people you know, that is when the knot in the stomach begins to churn. You don't want to be seen as a pushy salesperson with these people so you shy away from calling except when you have a very good reason.
-
Some of you are very comfortable with your Sphere and Friends and dislike calling strangers. You are afraid of dealing with rejection and you know you won't get that from your friends, but those others, they might yell at you or slam a door, so you avoid them.
-
And then there are those of you that dislike this altogether. The conversation I find in the group is similar to in #2 where you don't like salespeople calling you and you don't want to be seen that way!
So what's there to do with all of this? Here we go:
COACH'S TIP>
-
After you have looked at where you are having fun with this and where you aren't, ask yourself, how you can have fun. Choose the groups you most enjoy. You won't attract if you aren't truly comfortable and enjoying yourself-so don't even waste your time doing it.
-
Now, re-examine your belief that is underlying the groups you don't enjoy. By seeing that you are holding a self-limiting belief (i.e.if I call a friend and mention real estate, they will think I am a slimy salesperson that doesn't care about them only their business), you can disseminate it and see if it is the TRUTH or just something you have made up.
-
Now, play a game to change those self-limiting beliefs. Choose one. Make up 5 other possible ways of looking at it. (i.e.if I call a friend and mention real estate, they will be happy to hear from me because I am telling them about something that could affect their retirement, or could make them money, or could help them be more educated, etc.)
-
Then dip your toe in this week: Make at least 5 calls you wouldn't have otherwise with your new possible ways of looking at it.
