Eat An Elephant
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said
it well:
"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take
the first step."
Is the first thing that comes to your mind,
when you read How Do You Eat An Elephant? "One bite at a time"? Probably you have heard, that is the way to do it. I so
agree!!! With technology, I have adapted this to say "One BYTE at a time"! But either way, getting our goals accomplished
often takes baby steps and consistency. My favorite time management author, James Allen, recommends in his book,
Getting Things
Done, to focus on identifying and taking THE NEXT STEP for each project we have. Most of the
time, we can accomplish and go forward with just one step.
So, tell me, what are you procrastinating
about, which, if you just took one step on today, would be moved forward? I am beginning to work on my 2008 Goals and am
working with my clients on theirs. The whole process seems to make people a little crazy. Whether it is some unempowering
notion we have about goal setting or just the fact that it looks too daunting to pull all those numbers together, this is
not an area that is embraced by most of us. Yet, the process bears wonderful fruit. When you compile and
study the numbers, you are able to plan the actions that will take you there with some certainty. If you'd like
my monthly tracking sheet, email me with tracking sheet in the subject.
Or maybe, just keeping it VERY, VERY simple is your
style. That is OK too! You can just take a bite of that old elephant every day. Ask yourself ....what can I do
today:
-
to be better?
-
to raise a standard or
practice?
-
to serve my clients with more WOW
service?
-
for my business, to increase the
systemization?
-
to utilize my databases more
fully?
-
to handle something I am tolerating
that would free up energy?
Ask yourself just this one question:
What one thing, if I did it right now, would make the most difference? And then, ACT on the answer. Each day will start to yield incredible results, little by
little.
My friend, Coach Patti Kouri and I were discussing this as we talked about our vision for the people that play with us in The Real Estate Game. Our intent is to have people not only have clarity in what
they want but to be in action about having it happen. Too many people are getting ready rather than jumping in and making
something happen.
There are opportunities in every
market. What are the opportunities for you right now? What one action can you take today that will move you
forward????
Are you ready to take action? For a little
motivation and inspiration, take 6 minutes to watch this video of John Goddard, the World's #1 Goal
Achiever.
