Sep. 22, 2009 - Are you Going to Kick Back or Kick Ass in th last 100 days of 2009?

There are 100 days left in 2009. You have a choice right now to coast through the Fall and Holidays or to take charge and decide this will be the best quarter of the year. While many agents are feeling the busy part of the year is now gone and they “know” things are slower over the holidays….the smart agents are seeing where the opportunities are and seizing them.

Instead of kicking back, you can  ramp up a blitz for your sphere, your farm area, or your client base. Plan a client appreciation party or just take a client out to lunch each week. Call everyone in your sphere and update their contact info making sure you have the right email address. It can not only make for a better last 100 days, but set you up to hit the ground running in 2010.

So…..Let’s stop and take a few minutes to put this into place:

1.     What would be a “kick ass” last 100 days? Define on paper the vision. Keep it simple.

2.     Write down a goal in both of these areas :

1.     A business goal that is measurable: i.e. # of transactions, # of new contacts, # of new strategic partners

2.     A personal goal: i.e. Lose 20 lb, stop smoking, start meditating or doing yoga

3.     Plan what remarkable actions you’ll be taking to make this happen: Plug the time into your weekly calendar as an appointment.

4.     Start each day by reviewing your goals and determine for that day, what action will provide the most leverage to get you closer.

5.     Get an accountability partner: Get a buddy, Hire a coach, go public with it on your Facebook page.

6.     Have FUN!!!!! Choose targets that excite you!

If you find you are holding yourself back, it may be time to do some work on that part of you! The WCR Harnessing The Power Course is one way to break free of the self-limiting thinking that you may not even be aware of.

Feb. 10, 2009 - Shift Happens! Have YOU Shifted?

What are you doing differently this year? I’ve been talking with my coaching clients and the ones who are thriving have shifted into responding to the opportunities available right now instead of trying to return the “basics” and do more, harder, faster of what used to work.

Listen…..it is no longer 2006! That horse is out of the barn and is a long way away. If you want a pony to ride right now, you have to take a look at what is in the barn right now. Maybe it isn’t even a horse. Maybe it’s a giraffe or a mongoose. Chances are, it will take different riding skills that you used for the horse. What new skills do you need? What new way of serving your clients will bring them value?

Tuesday’s Borrowed Wisdom

"Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...
it's about learning how to dance in the rain!"

Tuesday’s RESOURCES

My three favorite reads for shifting…

1. If you haven’t read Gary Keller’s book, Shift, it will give you insight into what kind of animal you are facing and how to ride it.

2. My amazing friend, Margaret Rome’s book, Real Estate The Rome Way, is one to highlight and bookmark as she shares her great ideas. If you haven’t had the opportunity to know (and be touched by) Margaret Rome personally, this book is the next best thing! This awesome woman shares the secrets and systems that have made her one of the best agents in the country. Whether you are a new agent or an experienced one, the gems and straight forward advice this book gives will help you succeed faster. With 11% of agents doing 89% of the business, you want to know what they know!

3. For another compelling perspective, get Bernice Ross’s Book that was the top selling book at the 2008 NAR Convention, Real Estate Dough. And if you really want to have some fun, get her Real Estate Dough Game. It’s a really fun card game that will help you hone your real estate negotiating skills.

If you are a female leader, Bernice’s 3rd Annual Awesome Females in Real Estate Conference is not to be missed: The theme this year is Navigating from Chaos to Opportunity.

You’ll be joining 100 of the most talented and inspiring women leaders in the country in Savannah, Georgia. It's guaranteed to be three great days of learning, networking, and fun.

Feb. 10, 2009 - Cruising…

My brother Andy had the hairiest Chest on the boat!

I love the way a vacation allows me to step back and re-assess. A change of scenery is stimulating and the world view when removed from my nest is an important way for me to have my pulse on the world. I prefer this to watching TV! Bub and I spent last week in the Western Caribbean on a WorldVenture’s DreamTrip on the Carnival Imagination with my sweet brother Andy (who won the men’s hairiest chest contest!) and his wife Judy. I relaxed, read, spent quality time with my family and ATE! We had never been to Key West or Cozumel and will probably revisit both.

My assessing led me to do some late 2009 planning….I’ve come up with my 3 projects for the year: a bathroom remodel, the backyard revamp and a plan to take a trip every month. I’m reworking the budget to make it all work responsibly. This budget thing is one that seems to be coming up with many of my clients. With the economy and uncertainties that lie before us, being prudent is important. Getting rid of fluff or unnecessary frills is part of this (I’ve dropped $40 of monthly movie subscriptions). But, I believe it is time to still enjoy, have fun and find the bliss, we just have to do some shifting! My word for this year is relax and that’s the “mood” I am surrounding myself with AFTER doing the necessary planning!

Jun. 17, 2006 - Set Strong Boundaries

Do you ever feel you are a victim at the mercy of others? Would you love to have a strong MOAT around you so they can't impact you? If so, here are  good ways 5 ways to strengthen your personal boundaries:

1. What behavior in others is unacceptable? You do not need to put up with behavior that is hurtful, disrespectful or just plain rude! If you do not respect yourself and set boundaries, it is likely you will be negatively impacted by others. Make some conscious decisions about what is and what isn't acceptable. This is a very personal thing and no one else's standards or boundaries have anything to do with what you choose for yourself.

2. Then Communicate Those Boundaries. Life is too short to work with jerks! Luckily, most clients don't fall into that category, but maybe just need a little coaching on giving your proper respect. On the other hand, if they are rude jerks, you don't need them. Once you communicate and set boundaries with others, they will usually respect them. You may need to remind them, but most people want it to be a win/win.

3. Days off and office/work time. We are one of the few professions where the norm seems to be that an agent should be around 24/7 for their clients. We have done this to ourselves! Stop it! If you tell people in advance your working hours, you will not lose clients, but will be garnering the respect you deserve. My friend, John Smith, printed on his business cards:                      Office Hours: M-F 9 am-6 pm,Saturday by appointment, Sunday-Family Day.

4.Give Up Being Mother Theresa You may be in this business because you like people, but you can not solve everyone's problems. I am particularly talking about getting sucked into dramas. As an agent, we can provide all the business information they need, but don't need to become co-dependent about helping them solve their life problems. Some people thrive on the excitement of crises and dramas. This isn't a productive use of your time unless you ware working on getting your therapy license.

5. Enjoy Yourself One of my favorite quotes is by my husband, Bub, who says,"If you aren't enjoying yourself you are doing it wrong." I misquoted him once by saying "If you aren't having fun, you are doing it wrong" and he corrected me by explaining it was about enjoying SELF. In other words, liking the person you are and the things you are doing.

When you respect yourself and set boundaries, this tells the world you are a person with high self-esteem who is true to their own values. You may find yourself letting go of some relationships, but it will probably be a relief instead of a problem.

What boundary could you implement this week? Implement one, see how it feels and then I bet you will extend that moat around you to really give yours self some protection

Aug. 29, 2005 - It's the little things that make a difference!

With apologies and appreciation to the ePRO creators from whom I have borrowed this line :>)

I'm sitting across from London Bridge in a hotel, The Agave Inn, room on the waterfront. No, that doesn't mean I am in England...I am in Lake Havasu  City, AZ

I'm teaching a GRI Class and choose to stay here because I knew I needed a nurturing place to spend the nights before the two days when I would be on my feet for 8 hours straight.

I have an Ultimate Spa Tub that has instructions on How To Take A Bath!

The room looks like an IKEA Showroom...The beds have 300 count sheets, there's a DSL line for my computer and everything down to the bamboo in the pot is invitingly sparse but perfect. It's the little things....

So, I've been relaxed and productive...that interesting mix that I strive for with my clients. How do you put yourself in a place where you can slow down the pace but not reduce your productiveness? The answer I get, again, in to be taking very good care of myself so I have the energy and focus to do my best work with others.

I could have stayed at a Motel 6, but I doubt I would have the wonderfully satisfied feelings I have sitting on the patio marveling at how and why they brought the London Bridge to the Arizona desert! Isn't life extraordinary??

Aug. 27, 2005 - 10 Delicious Daily Habits

Several weeks ago, in my newsletter, I invited anyone who wanted to participate with me in a 30 day challenge to create and use the 10 Delicious Daily Habits . By doing this, we all have created and are tracking 10 actions each day that we want to turn into habits and that nuture or indulge us a little.

I use this exercise with the clients I am coaching personally. So many times, I find we are giving to others all day and do not put the gas back in the gas tank, so to speak. This is often the source of burnout or lack of passion about what we are doing. Just as a tall building needs a strong foundation, a powerful human being needs to practice extreme self care to do their best and be focused.

I threw this out as a challange because there were 2 particular habits I wanted to form and I had been having a hard time at being disciplined to take action on them daily.  There are 5 other people playing this game with me right now and I have to admit, having cheerleaders and coaches is something I respond to well. I thank them for being there for me and for each other!

The rule with these habits is that they can not be "shoulds"...they have to be things that make you joyful or that nurture you. Can you imagine if you were doing 10 things every single day to nurture yourself how that would feel? I love it.

Some of the actions on my list are easy....cuddle with my hubby or play with Lily. Some were to support the cleansing and eating plan I have undertaken to lose 20 pounds (which will truly make me joyful and ready for our vacation in Hawaii ). These included drinking 120 oz of water daily, taking supplements to support my wellness and eating what is allowed on my plan

Two other habits on my list  were to meditate each day and to write for at least 15 minutes each day-either journalling or an article (and now I can add blogging!). These are both that I know make me REALLY joyful and yet I will drop the minute I become busy. I still am intrigued with why I do this. I find many clients do the same thing: quit exercising or getting enough sleep. Whatever keeps us grounded and sane seems to go out the window when we need it most!

So, we are two weeks through the four and I'm doing pretty good. I do not have a perfect score, even though I though I was going to be able to do that, but I am mindfully choosing each day to give myself support of habits that feel really good!

What habit makes you feel grounded?
