CRS Medallion Award Winners Marylea Todd and Bill Sloan

The CRS Medallion Award is given to a select few in the CRS organization.

And we are very proud that two of the recipients, Maryaea Todd and Bill Sloan, are members of our local Southern California CRS Chapter.

The following is a provocative interview with these CRS stars, conducted by Rich Lombari (Chair - Newsletter and Communications for SoCal CRS) at today's 1st Quarterly Membership Meeting in Costa Mesa (more on the meeting learnings later).

Listen in on the insights from Marylea and Bill (the video is about 6 minutes and may take some time to load) - they offer some great tips on how to make the most of the CRS designation and the value of being a CRS.

Are YOU a Southern California CRS Chapter Member?

If you are reading this, it is likely you are a member of the Southern California Chapter of the CRS. But perhaps not.

If you aren't, you should be. In my opinion you will get far more out of being a CRS if you join our local chapter. There are some great meetings to attend each quarter when you will learn new things to help YOUR business, and meet folks from other areas which opens the door for more referrals (inbound AND outbound). And if you are interested in getting involved in the organization itself, there are opportunities for that as well.

Here's a full list of the benefits we feel you will derive from joining:

1)      Networking You will be associating with local and top SoCal CRS Designees and given the opportunity to exchange business cards and leads at our SoCal quarterly meetings. This could mean the difference between you receiving $5,000 to $20,000 in commissions.

2)      Sharing useful ideas that work – You will be able to attend closer SoCal General Membership Meetings at a discount rather than going to the national meetings further away.   You will be gathering to share what works in your part of SoCal, a marketing program you tried that was great, or a powerful program you utilize in your business. These are great national ideas and top speakers at the local level. WOW, these ideas are powerful if used. This can save you up to $300.00 dollars you would have paid to attend National seminars.

3)      SoCal Newsletter – You will receive our customized newsletter which is packed with National and SoCal news, events and ideas. A $50.00 value.

4)      Incoming referrals within SoCal - Most referrals stay in SoCal and are encouraged to be kept with a SoCal chapter member. Look first for a SoCal member.

5)      Sell-a-bration raffle – You will be eligible for a raffle drawing to win a trip to the National Sell-a-bration Convention. A $500.00 value. This may NOT be offered every year, however.

6)      SoCal CRS membership gives you increase professionalism while learning, watching and working with the best in the industry.

7)      Giving to the communities - Our chapter donates to Habitat for Humanity.

8)      Volunteering opportunities at local and SoCal level - You will have a higher level of perception with your listing/selling clients.

9)      Point of difference - Show your clients that you are involved in your designation in comparison to your competition who is not involved. This could mean the difference in receiving or not receiving a listing.

10)   ANNUAL Marketing Campaign – You will be listed in the SouthernCaliforniaCRS.com online directory and the opportunity to have your business card in the newsletters - 4 times per year!!

11)   SoCal CRS sponsored CRS Courses at reduced rates You will have the opportunity to take a SoCal CRS sponsored CRS 2 day class for $50.00 less than the non-SoCal CRS member(This program is one 2 day CRS class per calendar year). Please see the SoCal CRS Rebate Policy for exact details on this program.

12)   Integrity - We help police the CRS Designation and challenge those that are using the designation falsely. This keeps your CRS Designation the strongest in the industry.

Why I Became a CRS

I decided to earn my CRS designation just a year ago for a number of reasons.

  • First, education has always been important to me...perhaps instilled by my parents. Guess that's why, in part, I decided to go to graduate school in psychology (that's a story for another time). I had heard great things about the classes that are offered and felt that it could contribute much to my knowledge as a REALTOR. I have found the classes that I took (referral, technology, listing strategies, buyer strategies) to be terrific learning, with great instructors. Our industry has been criticized for a long time about the quality of many of its practitioners, and many agents themselves feel that the licensing process in many states is too simple, and that many who practice real estate are not qualified to do so. I feel the CRS classes go a long way toward advancing the skills and knowledge of those who earn the designation. The classes I have taken provided me with substantial knowledge and techniques to better serve my buyer and seller clients, Adan to further my real estate business. With the changes that have occurred in the market and the use of technology it it critical that our classes continue to be modified and updated, to reflect current conditions and issues.
  • I also saw a value in the networking potential, among an elite group of practitioners nationally - yet another way to learn more about the business and share ideas with REALTORS from other states, in different markets, and with other issues. The annual Sell-a-Bration Convention is a great example of the networking, and continuing education, possibilities.
  • Finally, the opportunity to share referrals, in both directions, is enormous, and the many stories of CRS members who have found others to refer to or who have received referrals, is testimony to the success of the CRS referral network. I have a particular interest in relocation, having done so 4 times myself and from assisting many others move around the country.

So why did YOU decide to become a CRS?
