SoCal CRS Donation to Orange County Habit for Humanity 2008

Jan. 14, 2009
Categorized in: Fundraising

Orange County Habitat for Humanity in Santa AnaSouthern California CRS was proud to support the Orange County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity in 2008.

Through our annual fund raising efforts throughout the year in our commitment to the Chapter with a Heart mission, Southern California CRS donated $520 at the end of 2008 to the Orange County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity (we also supported 4 other Chapters in our region).

Additional donations of $1055 were raised during our big fund raising effort at our Q3 Membership meeting in Temecula with our Silent and Live Auctions.

Southern California CRS Board of Directors President-Elect Marlene Bridges (below, far right) and Area Vice President Donna Sutton (below, second from right), presented the check yesterday in Santa Ana

Thanks to all of our SoCal CRS members who so generously support our fund raising. And thank you for the Inland valley Habitat for Humanity Chapter for the valuable work you do to provide housing for needy families in the area.

Here's a brief video about our 2008 Fund Raising Efforts, for which we received the Chapter with a Heart Award.

Presenting the donation to Orange County Habitat for Humanity

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The Orange County Habitat for Humanity Chapter has a ReStore, a store where OC residents can purchase, at discounted prices, new and gently used home improvement and building materials. The proceeds are used to help build more HFH homes in Orange County.

If you and a client of yours is planning a remodel or demolition of some sort, PLEASE consider suggesting they donate the materials that are being removed.

Habitat has a terrific program called DeConstruct where the services team will salvage good quality and reusable building materials from homes and businesses that are undergoing a remodel or being demolished. Thus homeowners and business owners can donate items (if approved by Habitat) rather than spending money for demolition and dump fees, thus saving on the costs of their remodel or demolition.

READ MORE at the ReStore website. They have a list of approved items.

Categorized in: Fundraising

As you are all aware. we will have our big fund raising event at the upcoming Southern California CRS Chapter general membership meeting on September 26 in Temecula.

An exciting part of our fund raising will be the LIVE AUCTION, but we will also have items in our Silent Auction (see the Video in an earlier post about this and how you can help). Last year we raised several thousand dollars from the Live and Slient Auctions and hope to do the same again.

Here's an example of one of the GREAT OFFERINGS (thanks to Dee Lee, SoCalCRS member)

3 days and 2 nights in a condo at Mammoth Lakes that sleeps 4. Located near the pool, jacuzzi, and tennis court. VALUE - $700.00.

See the website for more information and photos.

Stay tuned for more updates on our fund raising and other great opportunities to contribute to Habitat for Humanity AND get something for yourself, family, friends or clients.

Habitat for Humanity Fund Raising - A Message to SoCalCRS Members

Aug. 8, 2008
Categorized in: Fundraising

This is a request for your participation in, and assistance with, our fund raising efforts for Chapter with a Heart for 2008.

As SoCal CRS members know, we have supported Habitat for Humanity for a number of years, and look forward to another terrific fund raising effort at our Temecula meeting on September 26. As in the past we will have our 50/50 Raffle (where the winning ticket takes home 50% of the total raised by ticket sales), but will also feature a Silent Auction (last year we raised several thousand dollars from that auction alone!).

I would also like to ask for your assistance with any donations for this Silent Auction.

If you know of a vendor or service provider that might be willing to donate a product of service (e.g., hotel stay, spa visit, boat trip, wine tasting, etc.), or perhaps have something you would like to donate, we would love to hear about it.

Please give me a call (760) 840-1360 or send me an email.

At the HFH site on Roosevelt in Carlsbad I had a chance to spend a few moments with JOE CARTON, General Superintendent, who was out at the site doing some grading work. This project is supported by the City of Carlsbad and is designed as an 11-unit condominium building. There are 8 1-BR units and 3 2-BR units, although they are trying to modify the design to create more 2-bedroom units (which are easier to fill given the needs of local families). Building is expected to begin right away and they are looking for volunteers (you can contact the San Diego Chapter of HFH to learn more about volunteering). Buliding is expected to take about 1 1/2 years.

Here are some photos from the site.

I hope you will take a moment to view the short video about this fund raising effort, filmed at the new Habitat for Humanity site in Carlsbad.

Chapter with a Heart Fund Raising

Feb. 5, 2008
Categorized in: Fundraising
What do a 2" X 4" and fund raising have to do with each other?

Well, since our Southern California Chapter of the CRS supports Habitat for Humanity, the connection is pretty obvious.

But there's more.

I chair the Chapter with a Heart committee, but I'm not letting out the secret yet. You'll have to stay tuned, and come to our first quarterly membership meeting in Orange County on March 14th to find out.
