7 DOs of Blogging

Here is my list of 7 things to do if you are blogging.

Yep, there are others I could list, but for folks starting out these seem to be the most important things to keep in mind.

  • Your blog must be CONSUMER-CENTRIC not agent-centric
  • Don't advertise yourself - this is not a PR piece
  • Focus on what buyers and sellers want and need
  • Provide information and good, fresh content and your readership will grow
  • Don't obsess about readership and traffic - just write
  • Know your market and your audience, and write for them
  • Focus on what you enjoy and your interests - you won't write well about things you don't enjoy

Thank you for the information.  I am new to the Blogging scene and I am very interested in having a Blog that someone would actually want to check at least once a week.  I am having difficulty trying to figure out what to put on or in my Blog!  You are right, I do not need to advertise myself...which is what I think mine is doing.  I want to grow my business from this tool but I don't want to seem as though I am only interested in it for the money.  I realize this is something that I will learn from as well as have a productive business from once I learn to manage it properly.  If yu have any suggestions for me please let me know!  My feelings will not be hurt! :-)

Welcome, Deborah! you will enjoy blogging and it WILL bring you business.

You can write about whatever you want, but it should be focused on the consumers, and the information that they want and need about buying and selling, as well as about the communities you service. Consumers don't want to read about you but about what you know. A good suggestion is to read other blogs and see what people are writing about, how they write, what their blogs look like and so on.

You might also consider joining ActiveRain, a real estate network not unlike Realtown. Great learning there, about blogging AND real estate in general, and a terrific community of real estate folks. I will send you an invitation to join.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any quesitons.

Jeff
