Relocating with Kids

One of the issues I covered in a previous post was the psychological and emotional impact of relocation. One of the specific things I talked about is relocating with children. This becomes more complicated as children get older, as they achieve a greater understanding of what is happening, have made friends they are leaving, and may be more concerned about change. Talking with them about what is happening and getting them involved in preparing to move as well as helping with selecting a new home, or at least having some say about their rooms in the new place can be a good way to help them transition.

I just read a great article that further addresses the issue of relocating with children that I thought would be of interest and helpful to readers. I decided to provide the link rather than summarize it here. I hope it provides some useful information.

I have relocated 3 of my 4 times with kids so I have a good idea of what it's like, especially at different ages. Let me know if you have any questions. It's tough on you, and it's tough on them, too!
