Oct. 6, 2006 - Even more MLS - Open MLS

I'm not going to repeat the entire article, but if you're interested in reading more about the Open MLS and my views on the MLS encouraging competition among brokers, I posted this article on Active Rain today. Included are links to the Open MLS website run by Dave Barry, as well as the Department of Justice's complaint against the National Association of Realtors.

On a side note, I attended my first Arizona Real Estate Educators Association meeting today. Not only did we receive some great information from our guest speaker, AAR lobbyist Tom Farley, but I found kindred spirits in my obsession for the minutiae of the real-estate contract.

As Rowdy Dawson said during my first contract class days before I passed the licensing exams (and as my former broker and now-branch manager Ron Copus often has said), the contract is the lifeblood of the profession. Learn it thoroughly and you'll have a leg up on most of the other agents in the Valley. It's a lesson I've never forgotten and even have taken one step farther by studying the contract from both sides of the aisle, as it were, as a representative of the buyer and the seller. Same wording. Very, very different impact.
