Making the Most of Your Virtual Real Estate

So you've got your website...great. Maybe it's got some great flash animation that you paid through the nose for, or maybe you've got a ton of great, custom IDX feeds that tell potential buyers everything they want to know and more.

But often, these elements (Flash, custom feeds) don't allow for maximum Serach Engine Optimization. Either you have a long page of MLS results or a full page of flash with no true content for search engine spiders to crawl.

One solution that I've seen, and even done for some clients, is to add a small paragraph of SEO text to the footer of each web page. As an SEO content copywriter I see the value in this. As a salesman, I don't.

Search engines don't care that you place SEO text in the footer. In fact, there are ways to use CSS to make text that appears at the top of your pages of HTML to the spiders appear at the bottom of your pages to your viewers on-screen. I suggest nothing more than two or three sentences of well writen copy with your keywords placed no more than twice. That way you don't like you're 'cramming' keywords, but still have enough content to make some sort of sense.

Some complain that this practice detracts from their site and don't do it. I see their point as well as the benefits of including this kind of text for SEO purposes.

Are you using every SEO element you can on every page?
