Most of the time I find indie movies so much more enjoyable than the big blockbusters... I've rented a few recently that I really loved:

The Amateurs - Citizens of a small town, under the influence of a man in the midst of a mid-life crisis, come together to make an adult film.

The "man in the midst of a mid-life crisis" is Jeff Bridges- if you loved him as "the Dude", you'll love him in this one.

King of California - An unstable dad who after getting out of a mental institution tries to convince his daughter that there's Spanish gold buried somewhere under suburbia.

This one stars Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood.

I actually just watched The King of California :) it was pretty darn cute :)

I really like dark, weird movies... Punch Drunk Love is one of my favorites as is The Royal Tenenbaums... I am a big BIG fan of Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket).

The Royal Tenenbaums was excellent but would that be considered an indie flick?

I guess I have always thought of "indie" as "not main stream" instead of "low budget"...

I guess I have always thought of "indie" as "not main stream" instead of "low budget"...

found some definitions:

An independent film, or indie film, is a film that is produced outside, "independent", of the Hollywood Studio system. Additionally, the term is used to describe less commercially-driven art films which differ markedly from the norms of plot-driven, mainstream classical Hollywood cinema. These films are often produced by subsidiaries of larger studios, such as Sony Pictures Classics, but are not really considered independent films even if less than half of its budget comes from a major movie studio

or:

The technical definition of the phrase independent film is: any movie that was funded with less than 50% of money that came from one of the "big six" major film studios, which are Columbia Pictures (MGM and UA), 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures/Touchstone Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios.

I own the Darjeeling Limited... have you seen it? If not, I'll let you borrow it  ;-)

I started watching it... but it's one of those movies I need quiet for, I am too easily side-tracked... so I'll need to be home alone when viewing :D but I'd LOVE to borrow it!  That would be extreemly awesome :D

One of my favorite indie flicks would have to be Donnie Darko....I like the whole time travel concept.

I love Donnie Darko too . The sequence where the camera is panning through the high school with "Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears is great...   awesome soundtrack also with the Gary Jules cover of Mad World
