I started using Linux in August of 2007!  Ubuntu was the first distrobution I tried.  I'm very excited about free and open source software!  I hope that there are some other e-PRO's also using Linux.  If you've decided to join this group, please start by telling us about your distro of choise!

Hi Thomas

Ubuntu is great! It's probably the most user-friendly distro of linux out there, and installation is a piece of cake.

I've been using linux for web development and I love its stability. In fact, RealTown is running on your typical LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).

I'm interested to hear what software you use for things like e-mail and web browsing.

Hello Hector,

I use firefox 98% of the time, iceweasel on Debian :)  I use gmail for my email, although I filter it through my own domain hosted with aplus.net.  Gmail is wonderful in my opinion, so is Gcal for that mater.  I also use pidgin and amsn for chat clients.

I just built a home server for fun and experimentation.  It's an old 2001 dell dimension 2100 that I've upgraded and installed Debian on.  There are a lot of home server project's that I'll goof with if I ever have the free time.

What about you Hector, what browser and email client do you prefer?

I use firefox for the web and thunderbird for email. But because I'm in web development, I have to browse my pages with IE/Win, too.

We don't have a graphical environment for our linux boxes as their main task is serving webpages and databases, so most of my linux use is from shelling in through putty and doing everything from the command line.

I'm actually running Windows on my home pc -- what can I say, I'm a gamer by night :) I also use FL-Studio for audio production at home, and as far as I can tell, it's only available on Windows. :(
