For those real estate professionals out there who have not yet tuned in to the new Tablet PC technology, there is a pretty good presentation of the technology at VREO.com.

VREO is pushing their RedTablet real estate dashboard solution at their web site and I can tell you there is more than one way around the bush with regard to going paperless and secure electronic e-signatures and utilization of a tablet PC solution.

It is however a nice presentataion of tablet technology at the VREO web site that I recommend as a way to gain a good and quick understanding of the possibilities with tablet PC usage.

I have a Toshiba Portege M700 tablet and like it VERY MUCH.

Do you know anyone who uses a Lenovo ThinkPad x61 tablet? I am kind of partial to the Lenovo brand (I currently have a standard ThinkPad notebook) and was thinking of purchasing a tablet one day.  It looks like it comes with 3 gigs of Ram compared with 1 or 2 GB on the other models which is great for multitasking.

Hi Brian,

I don't know anybody to date using a Lenovo. The Thinkpad line has always enjoyed a good reputation for a long time since it was an IBM line of laptop computer.

Computers equipped with the Intel dual core Centrino and Vista have the additional capability possible with the Intel Turbo Memory Controller which is a flash caching system adding the equivalent of a gig of internal processing power. See the Intel Turbo description here http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/turbomemory/316979.pdf

I went with the Toshiba M700, 2 gigs of RAM and the Intel Turbo solution. Toshiba has 20 years under their belt with portable computers. I also got the touch screen feature. Mine was a special order through Toshiba direct. I did it starting online and finishing wtih a Toshiba "Direct" rep and have achieved what I think are good results.

No issues or problems. Multi task environment behaves nicely. Mobile connectivity is exquisite with the dual core processor at work.

Windows Vista Business 32 bit (not 64 bit) is a new learning curve but not too bad. I like it overall.

I do not like MS Office 2007. MS blew it in my opinion and I am considering removing it and loading back Office XP 2003. I am currently evaluating whether this would be feasible 9in a Vista OS environment). I am also thinking that MS may be making some adjustments to 2007. I don't know what they were thinking originally.

The Thinkpad line should perform well but I don't know anybody to relate to firsthand experience with it. See what the online reviews reveal.

Dave,

I have three questions if you do not mind.

First question: Does your have built in broadband connectivity? Presently I use an aircard 875 from AT&T which requires the use of a port. I should have purchased the USB-compatible aircard.

Second question: do you use FAR's Transaction Desk for your paperless process? I have not looked at Transaction Desk for quite some time but when I try to use it, I found it to be difficult to use.

Third question: do you own a portable printer/scanner that can handle legal size paper?

Thanks,

>All three......good questions.

First question: Does your have built in broadband connectivity? Presently I use an aircard 875 from AT&T which requires the use of a port. I should have purchased the USB-compatible aircard.

>My tablet not only has built in wireless connectivity, the Intel Dual2Core cpu along with a WiFi Connection Manager makes the tablet "smart" about WifFi connectivity and makes it behave such that WiFi connectivity has the look and feel of broadband. It is VERY neat.

Second question: do you use FAR's Transaction Desk for your paperless process? I have not looked at Transaction Desk for quite some time but when I try to use it, I found it to be difficult to use.

>I am just digging in to Transaction Desk and I agree it is not intuitive. I recruited the assistance of one of my local board's certified TD trainers (who is also a Realtor). Having access to a trainer makes it somewhat better but I am still challenged.....but working with it. I think TD is a useful enough solution that I am going to stay with it and work with it.

Third question: do you own a portable printer/scanner that can handle legal size paper?

>I do not own a portable printer and do not know of one that will do legal size paper. I am paperless in that regard. I either do electronic fax or as an email attachment. If I am doing a listing appt that I expect to land or a purchase agreement that I expect to happen, I will print the documents without signatures and leave with the customer and then send by fax or email on a follow up......the signed copies. They can print those if they like or not.

>On a side note, I *am* in the process of evaluating projectors. So far I like the CASIO XJ-S41BB "Super Slim" DLP. My listing presentataions will become a multimedia event from my tablet PC. If I get really good, I may take the whole setup on the road like Buffini :-)
