So, Street Scene has been pretty much my favorite annual San Diego event for years and years... but for the past 2 or three years it's had a lot of trouble finding a home. Last year it was held in the parking lot at Coors Ampitheatre... Kind of lame if you ask me, I mean it's called STREET Scene... and I thought the whole point was that it took over the STREETS downtown...
I read this article Matt sent me, and I mean, I get why they don't want it to return to its home in the Gaslamp (too much construction, too many new condos, not a lot of open space like there used to be) but I don't know... I think Seaport Village could work... It would be WAY better then some parkinglot 30miles from downtown...
What do you think?

I definitely think it belongs back downtown. But as some suggested in the article, it should be scaled back to a smaller festival like it was in the early days. But I know it's hard to do that when there's profit$ to be made.
What about having it at the Embarcadero Marina Park and it's surrounding areas? Is that too small? I remember it being a great place to see a concert, and it's far enough away from residential areas, while still residing downtown. I think it's also close enough to the lawns behind Seaport Village, that they could combine the 2 areas. It could also spill over to the Petco tailgate lots.

How much is it going to cost this year? Plus isn't the alcohol pretty expensive once you get inside. I worked at a booth one year and they were charging $7 for a vodka and juice drink...and that was like 8 years ago.

Oh it's gonna cost an arm and a leg... and another few arms and legs if you plan on drinking ;) I'm on their mailing list, and last year they sent me an email letting me know that I can buy tickets for cheap before they release the line-up, I think the price was like $80 at that point... I lagged, didn't really want to invest in a concert when I didn't even know who was playing... The day they released the lineup, that price doubled to $160... that pretty much killed Street-Scene for me. It used to be so much cheaper...

Geeeeeeez - and to think I used to complain when it was $33.....
Although that was for one day. Is the $80 - $160 price for 1 day, or all 3 days?

Not exactly earth shattering news, but the Centre City Advisory Committee voted unanimously yesterday to support hosting the Street Scene downtown....
