Alright all you Realtowners. I know many of you out there go listen to live music occasionally. What's your most memorable concert, or music festival, or symphony, or live band in a dive bar experience. No fair naming your own band if you play(ed) in one, and no fair claiming you had too much "cold medicine" that night and can't really remember for sure.

I think I'm going to have to go with Neil Young either '93 or '94 when Booker T and the MG's were his backup band on the tour. Unfortunately, it was at the SD Sports Arena, but still a great show.
Also, Allman Bros at Starlight Bowl in the mid 90's. Was interesting to hear the comments from the teenagers sitting behind us before the show("My dad bought me the tickets, and said I should go - not so sure about this") and during/after the show("These guys rock!!")
The Kinks were also a great live show, saw them a couple of times in the 80's.
For fun, comic entertainment, and pretty good music, Dread Zeppelin at the Belly-Up Tavern in the 90's. Can't beat a Led Zeppelin cover band, with a reggae rhythm section, and an Elvis impersonator as lead singer.

I've been witness to many great shows. Crosby Stills and Nash acoustic at University of New Orleans baseball field (in a steady rain) in 85, Van Halen with Hagar OU812 at SD Sports Arena, in 88. But by far the best of all was at San Diego Stadium in 1972, The KGB Charity Ball. For $1.01 the fifty thousand or so of us were treated to J. Geils Band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Foghat, Dr. Hook's Medicine Show, and Jesse Collin Young. There were others, but I can't remember anymore. All proceeds were donated to charity. This was supposed to be the "1st Annual" but after the show the city refused to issue a permit for the next one. And so was born the KGB Homegrown Album series.

1969 and 1970 had some great festivals ... in 1970 I went to a Peace Festival in Shea Stadium (John Sebastian, ShaNaNa, Richie Havens, and others) and then flew up to Toronto that evening with friends for the Strawberry Fields Rock Festival at a motorcycle racetrack outside of town ... featuring Hog Heaven, Santana, Melanie, Richie Havens (he was everywhere), and three days of non-stop music.
The Shakespeare Music Festival in Central Park that summer featured the Allman Brothers, Carly Simon, Ike and Tina Turner, The Beach Boys, Melanie, and more.
Weekend concerts at the Filmore East showcased Janis Joplin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Richie Havens, Jefferson Airplane, Credence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Joe Cocker, Donovan, Don Maclean and others.
I saw Neil Young in 1970 or 1971 in Madison Square Garden ... that was also a nice venue for the Moody Blues and Linda Ronstadt on two other occasions.
Bette Midler is an all-time favorite ... saw her MANY years ago and a few years ago in the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
I used to LOVE to go to concerts. My husband and I have tickets to see Arlo Guthrie here in Tucson April 26. I think I saw him many years ago.

1984 - Madonna - SDSU Open Air Theater
Not a great concert. Went with cousin and her boyfriend. Great part was Beastie Boys were the opeing act.
1986 - Fresh Fest - Sports Arena
Run-DMC, Kurtis Blow, Whodini, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh and the Fat Boys plus numerous one hit wonders. Not bad for $15.
1990 - Depeche Mode - Violator - Sports Arena
One of the best concerts I've been to. Picture this red STUSSY shirt and flat top with frosted tips!
1990 - 91X Fest - Rosarito Beach
Pato Banton, Steele Pulse and Eek-A-Mouse on the beach while drinking $1 beers!
1991 - Lollapalooza I - Irvine Meadows
Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Ice-T, Violent Femmes, Fishbone, The Butthole Surfers, The Rollins Band and Nine Inch Nails.
1992 - GNR-Metallica Stadium Tour - Jack Murphy Stadium
The one where James Hetfield had burned his arm in Toronto a month earlier and a roadie plays for him!
Opening band Body Count! Yes Ice-T and 2 left handed African-American guitarists.
And yes it's sad Robert has never been to a concert! ShelteredLife.com!

Hi - first reply to music chat - I have a passion for new music and love to share my finds with others. As far as best concerts ever - old ones were Stones, the Cars, Tom Petty, Dire Straits, the Who, (slightly too young for the Beatles, Damn!), The Police, more recently - The National (friggin amazing in concert) and Yellowcard (sitting on the ground, reading a book while my tweenie daughter was at warped tour when I couldn't help but get up and join the mosh pit!). However, I am SUPER excited about what promises to be the best concert ever, I am going to the Gorge ampitheatre in Washington to the Sasquatch festival in 2 weeks - yeah! check it out at www.sasquatchfestival.com the cure, death cab, REM, the new pornographers, modest mouse, flight of the conchords, cold war kids, beirut, rogue wave, etc, etc, etc. Anyone else going????
Cheers and good listening,
Valarie V.

Hi Valarie - welcome to MusicChat. I won't be able to make it to the Sasquatch Festival, but it sounds like a great show. Make sure you give us a full report when you get back.

The Cure concert this past Tuesday night at Cox Arena was by far the best concert I've been to yet!
