Vintage Jefferson Airplane Video (Ed Sullivan Show 1968)

Hey Guys!  Found this video on google video and was again reminded what a truly great drummer Spencer was. Not as flashy as some, but didn't try to overpower the band.  With the Airplane, Riders, Dinosaurs, always strong and steady.

RIP Spencer.

Brandywine Club... Early 80's

Here's another show from Pennsylvania - Sent to us by Our favorite poster - Bob from Reading

Here's some pictures from the early 80's the venue was "The Brandywine
Club" in Chadds Ford, PA (near the Delaware state line).
As I recall, we (me, my bro Tom, and friend Gary) caught wind of this show
just hours before showtime and before you could say "powerglide" we were in
the car and on our way. Arriving at a packed house, we were able to find a
table with a decent view of the stage and proceeded to down beer after
beer.

......I've been around a little bit, I've got me some stories I could tell
I've been around a while now, and I've known some lovely women rather well
I've been dazed and amazed, I've been a witness to a redbone cajun spell

Honky tonkin', I guess I done me some....

As the night went on the empty Heineken bottles filled our table and the
band was smoke'n. At some point Tom decided to take a couple of bottles and
clank them together cheering on the band and exalting David for a "Heineken
Slide", well I guess he got a little overly enthused and.....well sure
enough one of the bottles he was clanking shattered and glass flew
(fortunately no-one got hurt!), we made our apologies to those around us,
and all was cool.

.....well, Amos he was marking time When the door blew off his car
They found Amos White in fifteen pieces Fifteen miles apart.....

It was of course a great show, with Marmaduke front and center, taking the
lead to everyone's delight! Oh yeah, Nelson treated us all to a Heineken
Slide in the second set. Just more memories of another great show from the
NRPS!

....Now if I had been working like I should have
By tonight I could've saved the fare
But Lord I've gone, yes, and drunk up every penny
And it's a thousand miles from here to there.....

Unfortunately this is the last of my NRPS archive photos,
hopefully I'll have some new stuff to share in the future.

We all hope you have some more, SOON!  Your stuff is always so good, we look forward to your posts.  You make the job of  Webmaster  very easy indeed!!!  One question...being the 80's I am quessing the band was Marmaduke, Nelson, Cage, Kemp and Shanahan.  In the first, third and fourth pic, there appears to be a sixth man.  Any ideas, or am I mistaken?  I am fairly unaware of this period, because I was living just outside of New Orleans at the time.  The only place NRPS played less than San Diego was New Orleans.  I have never seen evidence of them ever  playing anywhere near N.O.

NRPS 3/15/81 The Silo Reading PA

Hey everybody!  Here is some more great stuff from our buddy Bob from Reading, PA.  These are some pretty rare pics, it's the only time I've seen a pic of Allen Kemp on stage with the Riders.  Enjoy!

Here are the rest of the pics from "The Silo", you are correct; Patrick Shanahan was in fact the drummer. However, I mistakenly told you Steven Love was with the band for this show, he was not. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong again) the guitar player along w/ Marmaduke and David was actually Allen Kemp, sorry for the slip on that one.

Hey, that "Man of Steel" thing just might stick!

                           Nelson Jams

From Left- Allen Kemp, Marmaduke and David

The picture of me (at 21 years old) on the left and my bro Tom was taken at the show. We lost Tom, January 15, 1995 -RIP My Brother, you are loved and missed always!- Tom actually spent a year or more in the SD area back in the 80z while serving in the Navy, who knows maybe your paths have crossed?

It's certainly possible, he actually looks familiar...Love the Baseball sleeve NRPS jersey.  How many of us had those back in the day?

The ad for the show is the cover of a weekly rag "Inside Reading" that covers nightlife and the bar scene in the Reading Berks County area. It's still published today under the name "Loose Ends".

"WORKING IN THE SUN OUR DAYS BE SPENT IN FUN - WHEN NIGHTTIME COMES WE'LL REST AND THANK THE DAY WE THANK THE DAY"

          -Dave Torbert

PS  Our friend Gary is doing great in recovery from his
liver transplant. In fact he was down to a Phillies-Padres game (at least your Padres didn't sweep our Phils).

PPS There may be another show in my near future, I see they have added Penns Peak to the tour and I hope to make my way up to the "Coal Regions" of Pennsylvania for that one.

Great, Bob!! Can't wait to see the pics and get your review. And thanks for the great stuff!  It's always appreciated!

The Real "MAN OF STEEL"

From Bob from Reading PA

Superman Returns? -HA!!!

We know who the REAL "MAN OF STEEL" is........

Here's a couple shots of Buddy taken at "The Silo" Reading, PA 1981.

I took the pictures of Buddy, it was a NRPS show, March 15th, 1981
they did an early show and a late show. We had a table on the right side up
front at the stage. My brother Tom, Scott L. and a few other friends. The
band was Buddy, David, Marmaduke, Steve Love, I don't recall who the
drummer was.
(S/B Patrick Shanahan-db) I have and ad from the show and a couple more pics I'll send out later. The one of Buddy on stage is a tune up he did prior to the early show. The other one was as he left the stage and headed outside prior to the show. I know I have a picture of me and my brother at that show and was hoping to find it and send it along with the others soon.

Bob- As always I appreciate the great addition to this humble blog. Anytime you have something, we're glad to have it. Thanks

Spam Problems

Just a quick note:  I seem to be picking up a lot of spam (the type that gives stock tips) with regular names in the from field w/o subject lines.  If any of you gentle readers take the time to e-mail this site, I want to get your message.  Some of my best stuff has been the result of an e-mail.  Therefore I would simply ask that in the subject lines you would put in NRPSBlog or simular(until I get to know you) so they don't get deleted accidentally.  Thanks all.  Oh, and Happy Independence Day!  Enjoy your freedom.
