Soap BoxNet: At Risk Home Owners

Oct. 23, 2007

Thank Goodness someone had the sense to help out the at risk home owners. I really don't care why the home owners got into trouble, we all could be in their shoes someday. What I do care is that Countrywide recognized that no one wins. If the homeowner defaults, now the mortgage holder has to sell the home. It's a buyer's market and the homes are selling but the buyers are looking longer because of the volume. Because of the lending practices of the mortgage companies home owners are faced with payments they can't make! Mortgage companies like credit card companies are practicing irresponsible lending. How does a person get a credit card without the means to pay for it? My sons were in college not working and guess what without my knowledge the credit card companies were giving out free money! I know they should have known; I should have prepared them better. Well, that's true I will take some of the responsibility as well as my sons but the credit card companies should too! It's the same with mortgage companies, people trust that if the company says they can afford the loan; they think they can! Why would the company loan them that much money if they couldn't pay for it? I know customer beware but come on the ethics in business practices went right out the window somewhere down the line. All we have to do is look at the companies that blew their workers pensions! Not everyone is a whiz when handling money. Isn't that why we have the experts? Otherwise why would I need a lawyer or mortgage rep or financial planner, right? We need to be our brothers keeper in more ways than one. So I say great job and forward thinking to Countrywide I hope their plan works and other companies will get on the band wagon. No one loses in this deal!
