2008 A Look at Green Valley & Sahuarita beyond real estate...

Here's a wrap of some of the Green Valley & Sahuarita area Southern Arizona happenings...

December2008 - ongoing negotiations regarding extending the CAP/Colorado River water pipeline to Green Valley.  Farmer's Investment Comany (FICO - farmer of area pecan groves) has one proposal and Community Water of Green Valley is partnering with Rosemont Mine with another plan.

November 2008 - Community Performing Arts Center Foundation exceeds fundraising goal of $250K (matched by Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold) to complete Phase II of arts center project!

October 2008 - More than 250 walkers participated in the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation 3 mile walk - kicking off the annual fundraising campaign.

September 2008 - Continental School District students are welcomed back to classes by new Superintendent Jim Nelson.

September 2008 - Debbie Williams adopts a section of roadway on Continental Road.  Quarterly we'll be keeping this mile long section of road picked up & clean. 

August 2008 - During a 45 minute monsoon downpour - over 2" of rain was measured by several area weather watchers - leaving many streets obstible courses of mud & debris.

July 2008 - Friends of Madera Canyon continue to oppose the Cielo Madera housing development at the base of Madera Canyon.

June 2008 - U.S. Post Office annouces changes in Green Valley Zip Codes (effective 1/1/09) residents living south of Continental Road and west of I-19 will switch to the 85622 zip code.

May 2008 - An 83 year old man accidently shot himself in the leg while shopping at a local hardware store... apparently the man brought the revolver to the store (unaware that it was loaded) to purchase supplies to clean it and the gun accidently discharged.

April 2008 - Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction visits Continental School to present "EXCELLING" rating plaque to the District - only two school districts in Pima County achieved this designation.

March 2008 - Sahuarita hosts a Grand Opening Festival for opening of Municipal Complex - bringing together all public service departments that have been located throughout the community - often in temporary modular offices.

February 2008 - Volunteers deliver Green Valley phone book directories.  Info for the local phone book is self submitted and often includes where retirees have moved from, Green Valley Recreation club contacts, local maps & information.

January 2008 - Green Valley Recreation announces that six candidates will be running for the volunteer Board of Directors.
