Volume 8                                                                                                                                          JUNE 2008

I am very saddened: Judys II will be closing at the end of this month.
Personally, I think this is tragic. I, and most people I know, LOVE having this wonderful store in town. It was a perfect place to go to buy that nice birthday/ Christmas/ other present. Where will we go for that now? Wal-Mart? Not even close. Anything with the value of Judy II’s products is a good drive from here and twice as expensive.
And Betteye creates such beautiful bouquets and plant arrangements. Where to get those now? How nice to be able to run in and order flowers, & half the time you saw Betteye bringing them right to your door with a smile.
No more. It’s gone.
This, comes at a time when there is the grassroots effort brewing, starting to revitalize the area. What a shame.
I think the moral of the story is this:
Support your local merchants or we will lose what we have.

Excuse me now while I go cry in my coffee.

Full Strawberry Moon (June 18)
The Algonquin tribes knew this Moon as a time to gather ripening strawberries. It is also known as the Rose Moon and the Hot Moon.

Buyer’s representation
It is imperative that potential buyers consider exclusive representation.

An agent working exclusively with a buyer shares the commission with the seller agent so there is no cost to you.  When looking for new or resale homes, you need an advocate for you, protecting your interests.  Using a realtor to help you does not cost you any more and it gives you added protection for that purchase.   Trying to go it alone (buying directly from the real estate agent or company whose sign is in the yard) will not save you money.  Further, you have no representation and may end up costing you alot!  When you are making one of the biggest  decisions in your life, it makes sense to have someone on your side protecting you, at no additional charge!
Next month I will discuss what one should look for in a buyer’s agent.

What we know fondly as the “Stars and Stripes” was adopted by the Continental Congress as the official American flag on June 14, 1777, in the midst of the Revolutionary War. Colonial troops fought under many different flags with various symbols (rattlesnakes, pine trees, eagles) and slogans (“Don’t Tread on Me,” “Liberty or Death,” and “Conquer or Die,” to name a few).

The first flag had 13 stars on a blue field and 13 alternating red and white stripes for the 13 original colonies. Now there are 50 stars, one for each state in the Union, but the 13 stripes remain. Flag Day was first celebrated in 1877, on the flag’s 100th birthday.                                     http://www.almanac.com

Like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day has a modern origin. The idea came to Mrs. John Dodd as she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1910. Her father, William Smart, had raised his children alone on his Washington farm after his wife died giving birth to their sixth child. Mrs. Dodd proposed to the Spokane Ministerial Association and the YMCA that they celebrate a “father’s day” on June 5, her father’s birthday. The idea received strong support, but the good ministers of Spokane asked that the day be changed to give them extra time to prepare sermons on the unexplored subject of fathers. The first Father’s Day was observed on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, and soon other towns had their own celebrations. In spite of widespread support, Father’s Day did not become a permanent national holiday until 1972, when President Richard Nixon signed a law declaring that it be celebrated annually on the third Sunday in June. Father’s Day is June 15.                               http://www.almanac.com
