Coronado Neighborhood Assn. by-laws meeting

Jul. 26, 2008
Categorized in: Coronado Happenings

On Saturday, at Emerson School, a group of Coronado residents met to discuss and revise the Coronado Neighborhood Association by-laws. The Association by-laws have not been revised since 1985. So much has changed in our Neighborhood in the last 23 years, and so much has stayed the same. We were so fortunate to have one member who was present at the original by-law conference, and at least one person who was present at the 1985 revision.

We looked at the Mission Statement of the Association: and we did not change the statement, other than to place the last sentence as a Purpose. We looked at terms, such as members, residents, voting and established the parameters of the terms. The discussions were friendly, passionate, but not rancorous. We accomplished so much in 4.5 hours; I was amazed. We were fortunate to have Hal Korff and his wife, Lynn, to arbitrate and take notes.  Hal took us through the procedures and the process with a great deal of humor and grace.

We were also fortunate to have a local attorney, Faith Klepper, who led us through the Arizona Revised Statutes and their implications on by-laws. I walked away at 2 p.m. delighted with the progress we made and we have another meeting scheduled on August 2nd.

The feedback I received was so positive.  Everyone was pleased with the progress and the manner in which we all worked together to accomplish a complicated task.   I feel we can move these by-laws through to conclusion and seek passage from the residents, knowing we've addressed some important issues.

Coronado Night Out at MacAlpine's Soda Fountain

Dec. 12, 2007
Categorized in: Coronado Happenings

On Friday, December 10th, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., the motorists on 7th Street in Phoenix, both north and south bound, get an unexpected treat. The Emerson School choir, led by Ms. Miller, serenaded the motorists and the residents of Coronado with Christmas carols and songs. The event was sponsored by the Coronado Neighborhood Association and MacAlpine's Soda Fountain, a local landmark. Unfortunately, the choir performed in the rain, but the kids didn't seem to mind and those present enjoyed the songs from inside the store. All of us had a good time and we enjoyed the hot chocolate and cookies provided by our host. The event also benefited Jewish Family and Child Services food drive, for needy families in the area.
