Help!

My computers now have Vista (which I actually like) and Microsoft has replaced Outlook Express with a new program called Windows Live Mail. I have never used Outlook. The e-PRO course uses Outlook in the training modules. How do I handle those questions?

Thanks for your help,

Linda & Christy,

Vista's version of outlook express re: windows live mail is actually a web based e-mail client from Microsoft's hotmail service. I would not recommend relying on it for your future in real estate because in my opinion you will outgrow it pretty fast. My suggestion would be to purchase outlook 2007 which can be purchased with Business Contact Manager. This product also comes with a number of versions of Microsft Office.

I have tried almost all the e-mail / contact managers out there and I think that outlook has a lot of great features. The important thing is your not spending all your day inputting data. Outlook also has a lot of on line help that will get you up and running pretty quick. It is an e-mail client that you can be utilizing for years to come. It mail merge feature is pretty easy to use also.

Good Luck,

Live Mail sets up and functions about the same as Outlook Express. You can substitute it and use the course instructions with possibly a few minor adjustments at most.

Outlook Express was phased out with Windows XP and replaced with "Internet Mail" in Vista. "Internet mail" was the first freebie mail client from Microsoft that had built in junk mail filtering.

"Internet Mail" is now phased out in Windows 7 and replaced by Live Mail. The privacy policy is much different in the Live software and it includes a suite of other "free" Microsoft productivity apps.

In Jim Brun's post he mentions Live Mail being web based but I believe in WIndows 7 it runs as a windows app (not a web site or browser add-in) that communicates some info back to Microsoft for marketing purposes, etc.

Mozilla Thunderbird works almost the same as Outlook Express. It is open source and free to use. The interface is clean and simple much like Outlook Express. It is more powerful with a larger feature set actually than any of these products except Outlook. You could easily adapt it as a substitute for Outlook Express.
