Pass On The Blessing |
Most of us want to be blessed! I admit I want God's blessings to pour out onto me daily. I am so thankful because they do. The fact that I have two eyes that see, and two ears that hear are blessings. The fact I have a house to live in and food to eat are a blessing. There are many people around the world that don't have these things that we take for granted daily.
What I wanted to focus on today is not about how we can be blessed, but rather how we can be a blessing. What if we went around each day with full awareness of others needs? What if we went around and did everything in our power to be a blessing to someone else?
If each day we made it a habit to go out of our way and be a blessing to someone else - imagine how many lives we could impact. If we meet other peoples needs, God will meet ours. Today I want to encourage you to make it a daily focus to look for opportunities to be a blessing to someone else.
A great question to ask at the beginning of each day is, "Who can I bless today? or Who can I encourage today? God who needs my help today?" Simply ask for a little help at the beginning of each day. If you stay aware during the day an opportunity is sure to arise. It might be as simple as picking up the phone to encourage a friend or loved one in a different way then you have before. Perhaps you could go to a nursing home and spend time with someone who is lonely. Perhaps you could volunteer to watch a single moms children for a couple hours so she can have some time to herself.
You might say, "I'll start helping others when they start helping me. Or I'll start blessing others when God blesses me." I believe God is looking for some more loving people who know of his unconditional love and are willing to share love with others even if they don't see it coming back to them right away.
"Therefore, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to all people..."(Galatians 6:10) Find ways you feel comfortable blessing people at first. Maybe you take a co-worker that you normally don't spend time with out to lunch. Perhaps you mow the neighbors lawn or shovel their driveway. You might like to fix things so check to see if there are people in need at your church and offer to fix their car. Maybe you like to bake. Bake a cake for someone you think would like it! Spend time with a child who does not have a father figure in their life. The list is endless!
I encourage you to do this daily. Do it consistently for 30 days so it becomes a habit. Also journal what you did that day. This helps keep the awareness level up. Also, as you start seeing your life and lives around you transformed, you will now have a testimony to share, so take note of that by keeping a journal.
Many of you reading this might be doing this already. So I want to offer one more challenge. How about we invite three other people to do the same thing. Encourage three other people to look for opportunities to bless others each day. If you do that then the love of Christ will spread. More people will take notice. Now if the three people that you encourage to spread the blessing, each find three more people to spread the blessing and so on down the line from there....This would eventually impact the city, then state, next the nation and eventually the world.
I ran the numbers on this. If every week three people each told three more people the exponential blessing numbers would take only 16 weeks to have over 3 billion people looking for opportunities to bless someone else that day. I am not a mathematician so you can certainly challenge those numbers. But even if I am off a little, the numbers get huge as each week passes.
So looking at the numbers I ran and then reflecting on all this I had to break it down again. I asked myself,"how hard is it to go out each day and look for opportunities to bless someone? Just one person!" And I thought, "That's not hard. I can do that!" Then I asked myself, "Do I know three people who could easily agree to do the same thing this week?" And I thought, "That's easy! I probably know 20 people who would do that, but I will start with three because it seems like an attainable goal for most people."
This doesn't seem to be that new of an idea, but I have to admit I have not been doing this consistently. So if you agree with me that its obtainable, lets not worry about what we have not done in the past, instead lets imagine the possibilities of the impact on the future. Then lets take action. If you have been reading my blog you know that MASSIVE ACTION = MASSIVE RESULTS!
Spread the Blessing!
