Painesville City Schools Announce Year-Round School

The Painesville City Local School District recently announced the proposed opening of one of its new schools as a "choice" school with an optional year-round calendar. Painesville Schools is currently undergoing a complete transformation with the construction of six new school buildings to be completed by 2009. The opening of these new schools creates opportunities for the district to change and improve the way things have been done in the past. Maple Elementary, chosen as the pilot school for this program, will open in late August 2008 and follow the traditional calendar the first year. Parents and staff will work through the year to develop the year-round calendar for full implementation in the 2009-2010 school year. Maple School was chosen as the pilot school because of its central location within the district. Enrollment boundaries will be removed and district parents can request their child be enrolled in Maple Elementary to experience the advantages of following a year-round school calendar.
Some of these advantages are:
- Increased student achievement
- Improved attendance, attitude and behavior
- Expanded opportunities for remediation and enrichment
- Reduced time reviewing subject material
- Minimized learning loss associated with typical three-month summer vacation
If there is not enough interest to fill enrollment in the choice school, all three elementary schools will follow the same traditional calendar year with traditional geographic enrollment boundaries.

I have a son in maple going into 3rd grade and i think its a great idea for year round school it keeps the knowledge from slipping during the summer .My son loves school but he forgets things when he gets out for the summer and i just think it would be very beneficial for parents to watch a year round schooling to see for themselves the benefits of it. They definetely dont get enough time in school for days off and holidays .....they need more time to really focus and not forget whats been taught to them.
