Created by:"AUSTIN (Austin American-Statesman) - General Growth Properties Inc., which
owns or co-owns 200 malls nationwide, including in Houston, Austin, San
Antonio and Dallas, has filed for bankruptcy, making it the largest real
estate bankruptcy in U.S. history.
The Chicago-based company said it had failed to win more time from its
lenders to refinance its debts. The filing lists $29.6 billion in assets
and $27.3 billion in debts."

Ah, wonderful retail.
General Growth owns several large, upscale malls in Chicago. However, I had read that
this will not affect the malls. Yeah, right. Have you noticed how many small shops are closed?
I was grocery shopping at our local Jewel the other day, and they had only half their lights on.
Great idea for both saving money and cutting down on energy usage, expect to see more of this.
And, along with the bankruptcies have you noticed how many newspapers have folded in the past
year. Will "news papers" become obsolete? I read several "papers" online every day and sometimes have
to watch a short commercial...but I'm betting that's the wave of the future.
And, just wondering out loud...perhaps we'll start seeing 15 second local real estate ads online...just about
everybody can upload a video today.

I've seen the same things happening here in Sacramento, CA. Many stores are using less lighting and I see alot more sky lights being installed into ceilings to cut down on expenses.
