That is because it works, and it is basically free! (And that means you do not need them!)

They do not like me very well, LOL! I recently met with a guy who supports sales for Adobe in my area: (they have a new product: "connect now" that I am interested in reselling)

My Friend told me of a recent seminar he went to where all the big hardware manufacturers in the camera industry were violently dissing a competitor (Cannon has a new professional-grade camera for a fraction of the old cost).

All the execs sat through it an one raised his hand at the end when it was time for questions: he asked:

"Wow, you guys are really scared to death of his Camera, aren't you?"

The presenter thought for moment, then conceded:

"Yes, we are scared to death of it!"

Who is "all". I know SEO guys who don't dis social media marketing. Perhaps it's more about selling what you offer? Wow, how funny, isn't that what you do?

Tell me more about this Cannon camera!

@Stephanie,

He is probably referring to the Canon (with one 'd') 5D Mark II which has a lot of features (including video) for much less money than equivalent cameras. There is a lot of disruption at all levels. The RED system is taking business away from professional video cameras that cost thousands more.

I'm not sure where he is coming from in the original post. I haven't heard any SEO companies here dissing social media marketing. I have asked for clarification before from him but I didn't get a response. It's sort of like "drive by posting."

Dirk Johnson does not "dis" social media marketing... in fact his firm has a
new software system that helps manage them for you...

Have a great day!

I am referring to ongoing discussions in several places here that I will not mention because the SEO guys complain aboout it: the SEO guys always downplay the importance and necessity for syndication of an original RSS feed from the website. (IE bloggin on your own platform)

It is an easy message to hear, because nobody wants to go to all the trouble of optimizing and distributing a feed, or to tell the client he must post constantly refresshed unique real content in order to have any real rankings. People would like to believe, and it is infinately easier to sell, that some hands-off link-building service where the client doesn't have to do anything will work; and thant somehow his "I am a Realtor too" site that he paid almost nothing for (and exists as a subdmain with redirect in many cases) will someday rank for something and that that will actually do somebody some good LOL. Here is a funny spoof on webdesigners:

Israel,

I usually stay out of these back and forth, he said - he said - she said threads, but this is just too much for me.

I appreciate the fact that you use Social Networking as a tool, however, your ideas about SEO sound extremely uninformed.

None of the SEO folks on this forum would consider doing SEO on a no-info website that has a redirected domain name or lives on a subdomain somewhere.

The SEO folks on this forum can get real estate websites ranked extremely well without the owner doing any blogging or RSS feed optimization and syndication.

What just amazes me about all of these SEO discussions is that no one seems capable of adding their expertise to the mix without degrading everyone else's.
