I've been meaning to ask this for awhile because they still practice this in a nearby MLS.

How common are open listings in the rest of PA or the country?

I swear I saw 20 different signs in the same yard once. Not only that but if you put IDX on your website, it has all of the contact information for the listing brokerages.

Not a heck of lot of incentive to spend marketing dollars, but I understand they also do use exclusive right to sell.

To my knowledge in MD you can not list open listings, you can list exclusive agency and disclose it in the lisitng

Some MLSs such as MRIS prohibit placing open listings in them. But I've seen farms in Orange County VA with bunches of signs.

Hi Malcolm,

Here in middle TN, we do not have open listings. Seems the norm for a seller to list w/ one company.Occassionaly, properties will have co-listing, especially if it's a large one which requires extra attention. With the huge expense of advertising and the added length of time in this economy to sell, it's great to have a co list!!

I agree. We do alot of co-listing properties in San Miguel County. It works well. The work is shared between 2 people.

From what I hear from others in PA, that MLS may be the only one still doing open listings.

We do have co-listings but I believe that's still an exclusive right to sell but it's shared.
