I signed up for the Google alerts a while back and I go for a week or so and then never get an alert. After a post to real talk, craig's list, zillow and such I begin receiving the google alert for "Jim Clauser" Does this help with search engine rankings for my web page via my name getting out there on the web?
Enquiring minds want to know...
For those of you who are not familiar with Google alerts. You can type in a phrase, for instance your name and every time Google finds it your notified. ( I guess that's how it works)

Jim, I have found that there are many very good uses for Google Alerts. The two that I lke best are to find out if or what people are saying about you and/or your company online, and to find out how your marketing efforts are doing.

1. What People Are Saying About You
Ever worried about what people are saying about you behind your back? Google Alerts will tell on them . . . at least on conversations made online. This gives you notice and the ability to respond to any accusations or kind remarks.

2. Find Out How Your Marketing Efforts are Doing
I've found that this is by far the most beneficial use of Google Alerts. We often do press releases and put in both keyword phrases and our company name into the press release. Every day I am getting Google Alerts that tell me that Google has picked up another site that picked up my announcement. Sometimes I'll put in our more important keyword phrases to see who else is using them.

All in all, Google Alerts is a great tool to show you what Google sees, when they see it.

My Best,
