 Camera for Xmas

After 5 happy years and over 10,000 photos with my Fuji Finepix s5000, I
decided to buy a new camera for Xmas. Perhaps my experience and online
research @ Consumer Reports ("CR") will be of interest to other Realtalkers.

CR profiles 189 camera models from 15 manufacturers with prices from $80 -
$1,300. I've become spoiled with the composition capabilities afforded with
at least a 10x optical zoom lens but certainly do NOT want the weight,
expense or extra lenses involved with either a digital or "real" single lens
reflex (SLR) camera. Soooooo, I narrowed my CR search by deselecting
subcompact and compact models. That left only 18 "super zoom" models out of
the original 189. 10 of the 18 super zooms were ranked "very good" for image
quality by CR and 5 of those 10 were from Fuji.

Having wide-angle capabilities (28mm) is an absolute MUST in real estate,
but only 5 of my 10 choices included wide-angle. 4 of those 5 were Fuji and
one was Kodak. Prices ranged up to $780 BUT, to my delight, the latest
models from Fuji and Kodak were directly competitive in specifications and
in CR's price estimate: $270 - $280.

A little internet shopping found the Fuji Finepix S2000HD (
http://tinyurl.com/5ltbnu ) for $200 and the Kodak Easyshare Z1015-IS (
http://tinyurl.com/6jmf8h ) for $254. Because of my delightful experience
with my Fuji --especially the "intelligent flash" capabilities of
illuminating large rooms without over-exposing close objects-- I ordered the
Fuji. It does twice as many things for half the price of the one I bought 5
years ago. I have just two words for that: A MAZING. :-)

28mm wide angle is often not enough, at least not for me.
A minimum of 24mm is much better.

Thanks for the info.  I, too, am shopping for a new camera for Christmas and I currently use a Fuji.  I'll check this one out.

Check out the Panasonic Lumix brand, I own two of them and am quite pleased….
