<as for the dead voting you never lived in Chicago.>

Most people on this list are not old enough to remember Johnson's first run for office in Texas. It was very controversial. One of the stories coming out of that election was about two politicians getting names for voter registration in the cemetery. One of them said, we have enough names, the other replied indignantly, we can't finish now, we would be denying all the others a vote. I know this story has been repeated many times about other election, however, the first time I heard the story, it was about Johnson.

I personally witnessed voting machine shenanigans in a Philadelphia primary election as a voting machine mechanic. All voting machines at that time were mechanical machines. Mechanical election machines after they are set up and certified (by the board of elections) do not break unless some voter takes a wrench to one of the voting levers on election day. Philadelphia had three different types of voting machines. I worked on the two types by one manufacturer. To make a long story short, at about 7PM I got call from the board of elections to fix two machines that did not work. What I found was that one lever on both machines was locked out. Coincidently the lever represented the same minority candidate and the two machines were in separate minority voting districts. Those two machines never worked all day long until I fixed them about an hour before the polls closed.

The Florida election of 2000 can be directly blamed on the individual boards of elections also for the failure of properly maintaining the functioning of the mechanical punches for the cards. I believe Florida now have all computer machines. The majority of the machines in New Jersey have computer machines also. I don't trust them. I will be voting with a paper ballot so that there is a written record of my vote in case a recount is required.

It is a shame that this great country has such a problem with honesty in elections and in politics and no stomach to fix them.

Voting fraud has gone on forever. I lived in Chicago and it was a fact of
life, and yes, dead people did vote. However, I think states and counties
spend a lot of money on the voting system and I'm wondering if the companies
making these ballots, machines, etc, are taking our tax dollars and giving
us inferior products? Does anyone know how much one of these new machines
costs?

Yes Lisa there is voter fraud in Chicago, and guess which party is running things there? The same party that brought Mr. Obama into politics.

If you want to read about political corruption in Chicago, try to find a copy of BOSS by Mike Royko.

It was a very popular best seller about Richard J. Daley, the mayor from 1955 to 1976 and father of the current mayor Richard M Daley.

Or read up on John Michael Curley, who was elected Mayor of Boston 4 different times (non consecutive) but is famous for being elected an alderman in 1904 while serving prison time for fraud. He also was elected to Congress once and was a one term Massachusetts governor. And during his fourth term as mayor, in 1947, he was convicted of mail fraud and served 5 months in the middle of his mayoral term, coming out to continue as mayor until 1950

The just don't make politicians like they used to.

Lisa,

I started to say "I'm glad you believe that", but realized that I am not
glad. We can never assume that voting fraud will not happen again. I
today's political world, I have no doubt that, no matter what technology we
have to try to stop it, those who deperately want their candidate to win no
matter what, will find the technology to beat the system and commit voter
fraud. I'm sure we will hear of some old fashioned voter fraud this
election, just like in others. It may be as simple as allowing some polls
to stay open again after other polls are closed. But my real fear is that
there will be some that we don't hear about. What if someone has figured
out how to get into the computers and change the totals? Isn't that a scary
thought.

Wow Lisa.. thats a great excuse... Its gone on forever, so what the heck???  Lets just let it go and close our eyes.... yet another nail in the coffin of democracy, but everyone seems to think its ok so why not??  Only our children and grandchildren will wonder what happened if they are smart enough to care since American history isn't taught any more in schools.

What I say has nothing to do with politics everyone... I hate politics but I love my Country... and I love Capitalism.  You all want hand outs and sharing the wealth thats great... Barney Frank said the other day there are plenty of Rich people out there to take money from so if you think its your patriotic duty go for it.    Personally, I don't want to share the wealth.  I came from nothing, I have made my own way against all odd's and when I give I want to give to who I want to.  That is my right as an American....
