Many of you would like to remotely access another pc, let's say your office pc from home, or your main office pc from a laptop, I will l refer you to an app that I personally use and install for many of my clients.
Of course, you could always use the built in remote desktop function in windows, but that typically requires a static IP address (unless a DNS forward is used) and going into your router to configure the port…probably more technical than most of you want to do..
So, what's the solution? Go to www.logmein.com and set up an account with their free version of LogMeIn and Hamachi, a VPN program..
Enter your email address and a password, follow the prompts, install the software, configure and away you go…Great basic remote desktop usage..
To access your pc, go to their website, log in with you info and you are using your pc as if you were sitting in front of it….
They have other solutions as well, such as Hamachi, a great free vpn service…
This lets you create a vpn (Virtual Private Network), kind like your own high speed HOV lane on the freeway, between multiple pc's…
Once set up, you'll have mapped network drives on each pc, and you can access you actually hard drive/mo documents folders and transfer files back and forth..
This is great for teams or agents with remote assistants/users who need/want access to various word, excel, pub, pdf files, etc…It is as if you are physically onsite access the network drives/folders, except you are using the internet and your private, secure tunnel to do so…
I would not use this for database programs, as they tend to be large data sets and take a very long time to transfer…
For basic drive/file access, it works great..
