Some will tell you they are working with an agent so you don't try to become their agent. It appears some buyers think they aren't suppose to admit they are working with another agent because you may get upset. I always ask if someone is working with another agent but I always explain the reason I ask is because I don't want to "step on anyone's toes." I let them know if they are working with another agent that I respect that agent's position. I always treat people with the same respect and degree of service. I also give my established clients (buyers) a hand full of my cards, knowing they are going out of their own, and ask them to please tell agents holding open houses that they are indeed working with someone and give them my card and also include me on guest sheet. I've learned that all agents don't ask and assume the walk-ins are theirs for the taking. Verna L. Hey, I totally agree there are some agents who don't care whatsoever whether the clients have or not any representation. One good technique I found useful is when you've established a little of a raport and you'd ask them whether they have an agent helping them, they'd say yes for example, then you quickly ask what's your agent name...So, if they really are telling the truth they would be quick to give you a name...Aha!! But, the bottom line is, if they really like you they'll work with you and if not they'll lie and lie and lie....So, my advice have fun while doing the job and enjoy it cause there are clients for everyone, and if it happens and you click with someone, it was meant to be in an easy relaxed manner...:)
