Can anyone share their knowledge of affordable health insurance options. There seems to be many plans available for independent contractors however, the costs are high.

Hello Shiela and everyone. This is my first time participating in any of the communities. It is horrible to say but I have been a lurker for awhile now.  I want to thank you all for the valuable information that has been shared during my e-pro journey.

In response to your question regarding health insurance, my family is current using Blue Cross which we elected through MAR benefits. I believe there are some options available through NAR, provided you are a member. It isn't cheap but we justify the cost with piece of mind.

If your primary concern is expense and you simply want to be covered in the event that something catastrophic happens, just elect a plan with a higher deductible and out of pocket expenses. You can surely find an afforable option this way.

You may also consider Kaiser, United Healthcare, or some of the other big carriers. A search online will probably provide you with a host of options, no pun intended.

Keep in mind that the majority of your premiums, if not all, should be tax deductible at the end of the year.  Best of luck to you.

Hi Sheila - I too have struggled for years looking for and changing health insurance plans.  I think the optimal solution is to marry someone with good corporate insurance;-) I jest.  But really, I am with a franchise company of Century21 and now I am finally looking into our group plan.  You never know.  Your company may offer something too.  It is a little bit more expensive than what I have paid in the past, but I don't have to worry about pre-existing conditions or for being turned down for a procedure for one reason or another.  If you really want to scare yourself, go see the Michael Moore documentary, "Sicko".  Good luck!
