It's that time of year again...when just about every neighborhood commercial district sponsors a street fair with entertainment, sidewalk sales, etc. My agency is located on a street that's having a festival this weekend. Does it "pay" for an real estate office to have an agent sit at a table on the sidewalk with brochures about buying a home, listing sheets, advertising novelties, etc.? Is it a good business or "good will" generator?
Good Will usually generates Good Business.
While it may be too late to do anything 'special' this year, here's what we did last year and are working on doing it again, even bigger this year: We are among the first Certified EcoBrokers on Long Island and created a "Go Green" theme for our booth. We got other vendors who were involved with different aspects of "green" to join us. We gave away the reusable shopping bags (like the ones the grocery stores sell) and CFL light bulbs as well as lots of energy saving tips/brochures from the local power company and water district and anyone else who wanted to give us stuff!
This year we have expanded. We hope to have a "solar shack" which people can visit to learn how solar energy works (GoSolar.com to see it) we have an organic landscaper and an organic interior designer, a 'green' store (GreenerCountry.com), a biodeisel fuel oil company, an hopefully a few others ... it's a service no one else provides and it sets us apart at a time when every other industry is marketing 'green' ... It's not a gimmick, it is something we are doing to help control the carbon footprint and make people aware of the need to do so. (watch the 11th hour with Leonardo Decapria & you'll be a believer too! lol)
Point is ...it doesn't have to be 'green' stuff ...do something interesting , a service for the community perhaps the police department creating id kits for children with fingerprints etc, lots of things that can be fun & helpful and will, in the long run, generate business!
