One of the strengths of the human condition is the ability to forget painful and ugly events that happen. Like the generation before us sought to remember Pearl Harbor we too have our "Day of Infamy" in the 9/11 attack.
Remembering is important because as the poet and philospher George Santayana said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Add to that Jefferson's "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." If we fail to remember it stands to reason we will be less vigilant.
Aiding in the rememberance of 9/11 is the September 11 Digital Archive at 911digitalarchive.org which contains first hand accounts and photographs.
There is also the Nation September 11 Memorial and Museum at www.national911memorial.org which contain professional and amateur photos and videos.
Project 2,996 at project2996.wordpress.com was created to remind us that each of the number of victims represents a real person who was a victim that day.
JMG Enterprises has set up a 9/11 tribute site that has some great powerpoint presentations at www.jmg-enterprises.com/911/index.htm.
Many of these sites contain horrific images. You will be shocked and outraged all over again. Young children won't understand what they're seeing. So, make sure you view these sites with them.
If a picture is worth a thousand words then these sites contain millions of words.
