I need to buy Microsoft publisher. It runs around $160.00 from what I can
see. Anyone know of any similar type programs that run less? I know there
are some free ones just like word, excel and such.

I think Open Office offers some kind of free desktop publisher.

Jim,

I can't believe you don't have MS Publisher. I wouldn't be without it! You might want to check on line for a lower price. Last week I bought MS Office 2007, Small Office for over $100 less than what it is sold for in stores.

Open Office includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, drawing program and data base, but I don't think it includes a Publisher-like program.

You may want to try scribus. I've never used it, but it's supposed to be crossplatform and it's free.

Scribus is more of a desktop publishing (i.e. newsletters) program. Open Office has a DRAW program that is much easier to use than Publisher. Open Office has a one-button approach to creating a PDF that you can send to anyone - not just those that happen to have a proprietary MS program. (Besides, have you ever stopped to look at how huge the publisher file is? Try sending that to an AOLer.)
