Netbooks are not suited for Real Estate full time work.
They come with no memory.
No pictures or document space.
They are great for light Internet functions.
But you will find real soon that you are deleting
installed software to make room for MyDocuments & pics.

Robin posted that netbooks are too small and that you'd have to start
deleating applications to save pictures. I've been considering them and
have heard a lot of negatives. But the ones that I have been looking at
have more memory and hard drive space than the 4 year old computer that I am
using now. I have tons of pictures and graphics saved and don't even have
1/4 of my hard drive space used! They may have been too small in the past,
but not today. The negatives to me are the small screen and needing to buy
an external DVD/CD/burner for putting on programs and for saving things to a
CD or DVD. That will probably put the cost as high as the inexpensive
laptops. But I like the idea of putting it in my purse like a previous
poster said. It's always men who have told me not to get one.

Fellow RT'ers,

Netbooks are convenience devices by their very design, they are not designed to take the place of a full powered laptop or desktop…

If you need to store and access large files, or edit pictures, etc., stick to a full powered laptop or better yet, desktop….netbooks simply cannot compete with them…

Their basic functions are for: web browsing, online access to social sites and the like, MLS access, web based email maybe Outlook/Outlook Express depending on the amount of emails, etc…Power Point presentations and such..

Remember, they are SMALL for a reason…small screen, smaller hard drives (in some cases no HD and flash memory used) smaller batteries, less RAM (go fast juice) and a lower end CPU (engine)..No cd/dvds for a reason, space and power needs…

The same logic applies to smartphones, they are a convenience item, I would not seriously consider using one for all of my email, contacts, etc…

You must choose your equipment wisely and use filters for how, when, where it will be used….They're cool, can fit into purse, back pocket, but they are for use as THE business computer…

Just my 2.5 cents worth….

Sincerely,

RC Fullerton

I am considering a netbook as a supplement to my desktop, laptop, and smartphone, not as replacement. I use my smartphone when on the go for many internet venues including Facebook, Twitter, research, phone numbers, MLS, GPS, etc, but often times find that it is not enough and the small screen is tiresome after a while so something in-between, that is low cost sounds just the ticket for me. The lack of DVD/CD drive is of no consequence to me. I already own an external one so I can use it if I need to add a program and as for saving info, a flash drive works wonders most of the time. As for men, many of my male peers like them as they do often carry a briefcase and find that it is still more convenient to carry the new minis instead of the full sized laptop. Even though the laptops are designed to be easily transportable, they are still cumbersome and heavy after a while (just went on vacation and carried my full sized Dell and was sorry I had brought it with me. It was VERY heavy lugging it through the airports (Chicago O'Hare is a HUGE airport - phew!)

I am not sure what brand I will purchase though. Suggestions???
