Hi David,
I've been thinking about becoming a Notary Public for a while now.
Recently, I went to a bank because my son needed something notarized for a mission trip he went on. My question is, "how does the notary get paid?" She did not request payment from us. Can you explain. J
Best,
Lisa D. Marino

Lisa,

I am a Notary and provide this service without charge as a result of my duties as a Right-of-Way Acquisition Agent (notarizing signed easements, deeds, etc.). Of course, many bank officers also provide Notary services to their customers on request - without charge - as part of their bank duties.

However, I understand that it is acceptable to accept payment for travel to provide the Notary service such as an Escrow Officer performing a "mobile closing".

For more information on becoming a Notary Public or a Signing Agent see: http://www.notaries.com/

I hope this helps.
