 Social Networking Presentation

I wrote and used this as my opening for a presentation on Social Networking that I gave at our WCR chapter. Just thought I'd share it.

It was early this morning, I went to my blog,
A comment there claimed that I lied like a dog.
I jumped over to Twitter cause I had a new Tweet
A client had posted "our new house is sweet"
At least there's a balance, one good post one bad
Eventually all of us make someone mad.
I go to the office and wander the halls
I'm thinking up content, and making some calls.
I put out some fires concerning a loan
Finally it's time that I headed for home.
I get to the house, but my work day's not done,
My wife said to me, "Honey, let's have some fun"
But I can't, I'm too busy, too busy you see
Someone online may be looking for me
On Facebook and Trulia and MySpace I post,
Wondering which one will make me the most,
On LinkedIn and Plaxo and Blogger and more,
My Active Rain points are beginning to soar.
I posted on RealTown and wrote my newsletter,
My articles keep getting better and better.
It was late and I still had to finish on Zillow,
My head it was spinning fore it hit the pillow.
I told my wife sorry that it is so late,
But mornings must start out with a clean slate.
That's ok she said although she did sigh
I'm certain your page rank will soon be quite high.
But I would like to know, said my frustrated spouse,
When will this stuff help you just sell a house?

That Social networking poem was just right!! My spouse, and the other agents in my office, and myself, are all asking the same question. When will it help me sell a house? Hasn't brought about any real leads yet but there is always tomorrow.

I am not a social network naysayer...people are proving that there is
value, when done properly. That said, I see example after example of
agents having skipped over the basics of SEO on their websites, and
head straight for the "wall of words" that is social networking.

Socnet activity is NOT really search engine optimization. When it is
approached with SEO in mind, it can help an SEO effort, but in
general, blogging and commenting is not usually efficient
optimization.

Google is still the 800 pound gorilla in the room. The traffic that
search engines can drive to a site dwarfs anything else. An agent who
is neglecting their basic SEO tasks is forfeiting their most vital
source of traffic to competitors.

A fraction of the time spent blogging and commenting could be applied
to focused SEO work, probably with dramatic results.

Again, I am not a naysayer, just a pragmatist. A agent that gets
their SEO basics in order stands to benefit far more from their
subsequent socnet activities.

Here's a FREE eBook that was specifically written for real estate
professionals, using real estate examples:

Search Engine Optimization Basics For Real Estate-Related Websites

I hope it helps.

Also, you can create your own optimized pages easily with our new
landing page tool, here:
http://www.domaindrivers.com/pagegumbo/pagegumbo-test.asp
http://www.domaindrivers.com/pagegumbo/pagegumbo.asp

The first link is an "example" page, and the second is a live tool
that you can use at anytime. The tool forces agents to put more of
the secondary real-estate related keywords on their pages.

The key to Facebook and other social networking sites is to get your client to introduce you to their friends not for you to post another listing on your Facebook wall. Check out any webinar or training conducted my James Nellis II, Mike Parker, or Gee Dunsten. They have this social networking thing down…and are making money using Facebook, Twitter, Active Rain, YouTube, etc. This is a HUGE topic and everyone wants to know how to monetize Facebook in particular. It can be a VERY effective viral marketing tool if used properly. Check out their websites: Gee-Dunsten.com and SpokenWordSeminars.com
