For the two years that we have been with Wolf Net they have promised to add some type of contact management feature. I spoke with them yesterday regarding this issue. Still nothing but a down the road promise. Folks, if you get a sign up and you can see in the admin section that they are searching daily for a month, you should contact them. Then, there should be some type of contact client section within the admin section that allows notes concerning that contact. It is essential. I guarantee, every vendor that speaks with you has such a contact management system and they are required to use it. It has been around for years. In the two years of promising, this seems like it would be a relatively easy add on. Yellow stickys with this information does not cut it and having to create a record in Outlook is cumbersome.
A great IDX solution has to be one that the consumers find easy to use and the agent can maintain contact and records.
BTW, for this lack of feature, I find Wolf Net to be expensive. I have been paying $78. a month.

I'm not sure what you mean by that since your overview is targeted at a different audience. I think your article may still be over some people's heads plus it omits one of the most important features to look for in an IDX solution.

Keith,

I was trying to point out that the overview is targeted at a different audience. Someone with your level of expertise would find the overview very simplistic, but it's a good place to start.

And, please don't leave me hanging. What feature is left out? :-)

Bonnie,

I think you've hit on a real sore point in existing real estate technology, and that's the need for integration.

Right now, real estate professionals have several places where leads are generated. At a minimum, most people have leads generated on their websites and their IDX searches. Others may be getting leads from their blogs, mailings they send out, and I'm sure the list goes on.

I'd like to see integration among all these systems. An open source-type set of technologies that would allow leads generated from a variety of places to be automatically funneled to one central database.

Then, you'd only have to manage one database, you'd only need one set of drip email campaigns, you'd be able to send mailings of interest to one group of prospects from one location.

I don't disagree that it would be helpful to have a contact management system in the third-party IDX systems. And, there is some movement toward this concept in some areas. But, what I'd really like to see is the ability to have truly functional centralized contact management.

I couldn't agree with you more Kathleen. The lack of good CRM - customer relationship management - software for Realtors is a big hole. And, sounds like an opportunity!

For this very reason, and the ones you site, on 1.1.09 I have resorted to Excel and I will migrate the data to Access over time as the DB is developed, gets bigger, and I design the features.

Websites, IDX providers... come on go, and I don't want my data in a vault somewhere that I can't get access to when/if I change suppliers. If nothing else, these two MS products are the lowest common denominator that I can find.

I experimented with SalesForce.com for a while. Great program, would likely do the job but, it needs some customization and integration work.

Bob,

Sounds like you're going to just fix it yourself, and that's great. I agree that a central respository would be good - one not tied to any one vendor.

Hopefully some techies out there are listening!

Well Kathleen, that was beyond my thought process but what a great concept. We are still early in the process of computers and information processing. One day, we will look back and realize how clumsy we were at getting started! My beef really is with when the technology is there and a vendor will not bring it to us--but still charges an arm and a leg.
