Barbara Asked: any thoughts on Pay per Click advertising with google?

Depends on amount you have to pay per click times the expected number of
clicks. This is offset by the potential revenue. If you have a handle on
all that it would be easy to determine if pay per click was worth it. I
have heard you could end up paying as much as $3.00 per click or as little
as $.05/click

For myself I have stayed away from pay per click because of the unknowns.
If you try it I would like to know how it works out.

I have been using google ppc for about 6 months now and I am very pleased with the results. If you pay $3.00 per click it is because you choose to do so, it doesn't just happen.

You set the budget for how much you want to spend per month and you allocate your budget between the ads you are posting. How much you spend per click depends on the competition for position for the same ad word or ad phrase. If you want to be number one it will cost more but if you are satisfied to be on the landing page which would be in the top 7 or 8 positions your cost will be less. If the money you have allocated for a given search phrase compared with the number of potential hits will only covered 1 in 4, then your ad will only come up every 4th time so you don't run out of budget in the first week of the month.

Just as SEO is by no means a guarantee of high placement depending on the competition, the same is true for PPC. Among other things the ad you write, the headline of your ad, even the url that is displayed influence how many times your ad is clicked.

Once a searcher arrives at your site, regardless of how or why they get there, the quality of your website determines how long they remain there, whether they register on the site, whether they drill down to secondary pages, etc.

My approach is to do everything I can to optimize my sites through SEO and in addition to use google adwords to drive additional traffic to the site. Neither approach is cheap. But the best website in the world is worthless if no one finds it.

I would like to thanks all the RT members who always contribute to share ideas and knowledge, specially in the market we are having this last  2 years.

I usually read  the comments, however today I would like to ask.

is anyone familiar with Fidelity Assets and their PPC program? I just read something about them and looks OK, but I would like some feedback.

Thanks.

Diana,

I have received info from this company but have no direct knowledge of their service.

I am working with a young man in Atlanta who is doing a good job for me and my costs are very modest. The actual cost depends on what you want him to do for you.

I would recommend him to anyone considering PPC. Contact information follows.

Let me add some additional information regarding Google's Adwords (PPC).

First you can go to their website and click on Adwords...there are pages of explanation with examples. Read the explanations; print them out and make up a PPC notebook. And, you may find a listing of their classes, which I think run $250 per session.

Then start a small campaign...perhaps $3.00 a day. Write several ads and track which ads get more clicks. Then use the one that gets the most clicks.

Also look at the keyword daily results. You may notice that you're number 1 for "crazy real estate agent" but number 10 for "professional real estate agent." Then decide what you want to pay to move up in your ranking. Look to see how many ads appear on page 1. If you want to be there, are you willing to pay for it?

Then also look at the geographic area where your ads run. I keep mine to a geographic radius of 20 miles. I don't care if someone from Europe wants to move here; but, I do care if someone living in my area wants to move up/move down or just buy their first property. So, I'm targeting those buyers.

Also, learn that you can run your ads 24/7...or just 4 hours a day or just 4 days a week. I don't run ads between midnight and 6am...just not enough local night owls to make it worthwhile. Once you refine your run days and times, you need to check and see how this week compares to last week. (And, as this is Thanksgiving week...I can tell you that the numbers are way down as people are traveling, cooking, shopping or entertaining family. It's normal.)

In fact, after you've been doing this for a while, you can compare 2005 with 2008; 2006 with 2008, 2007 with 2008. I do a monthly comparison mostly. And, based on the numbers, clicks are down. And, I don't think it has anything to do with me personally. It's the economy, stupid. And, again, I know that in our market this is vacation time for Realtors. There's not a lot of activity now. We may pickup in the spring with nicer weather...and then, I'll up my spend rate.

Print advertising? That's so last century!

Pay per click (Google & Yahoo)
SEO is such a hard thing to get a good grasp on but I think I've learned a lot over the past few years. I do have a BIG piece of advice to give everyone.....Do not set up your daily budget at high amounts because it will absolutely break you. During the times when my business was booming I made that mistake and kept raising my daily budget (sometimes spending as much as $8,000 in a months time). Keep your bids low and your monthly/ daily budgets low and you will do fine. It's all in your control. Just make sure that you keep a watchful eye on your account. Sponsored searches work and definitely bring business in.

Thanks to Eileen for the advice on the PPC online classes. On the net I have the attention span of a fly. If I can't figure it out in a couple minutes, I'm gone. Like most of our clients. However, living on a rock in the middle of the ocean in this economy I need all the help my website can get. So, I guess I'll be studying how to use those free ad words I got through Godaddy.
