This is just a note to say Congratulations to our country for doing a great
thing...
As for a political digest... I will participate, but at this time it seems a
bit late... perhaps now we can discuss some real issues without partisan
bias... things like the election process, voter issues, campaign reform,
etc.
Have a great day!
Best regards,

I just wanted to Congratulate everyone who voted for Obama, in hopes that he will do great things for this country. In this country the majority wins and the people have spoken.
I am not going to lie to you and tell you I think Obama was the best choice, I don't. I am only saying that I hope he keeps his promises and that he will make you all proud!
Paul, It will be very gratifying in you are willing to give up the partisan bias, no doubt the conversation will improve. Also, although we will allow a short period for your party to acclimate to its responsibilities (Bush received about 3 months after 9/11), the Dem's will be apropriately critiqued in their job performance. You should remember that in excess of 55 million Americans did not agree that your congratulations are in order

To P.Silver....... We've been a "Democratic Congress" since 2006 what are
you talking about?
Elaine Bernier
---
I cant say what I was talking about, since you did not include any of my
post...
But as you know, the Democratic Congress you speak of did not have enough of
a majority to actually pass much legislation... there are rules about the
nature of the majority needed, determined in the Rules Committees, before
legislation even gets discussed, never mind voted on... so without enough of
a majority, it is nearly as if there were none.
So if that was to the point, great... if not, I don't know what you are
talking about.
Have a great day!

--- last I checked we were a democracy... that is how it goes... Obama won
by more than 4 million votes in the popular vote... we should congratulate
ourselves for electing a champion of freedom and liberty, and allow him to
do his job...
Saul mentions his distress over the hatred he sees for George Bush... I see
at least as much, and likely more, toward our next President... frankly it
is disgusting...
Have a great day!

I disagree Paul. I think you will see less, a lot less. You will not see
Ellen Degeneress, Oprah, Barbara Walters, etc denigrating Obama...all the
folks with all of the air time are pro Obama. Someone let me know when SNL
does a negative, nasty Obama skit. I think it will be awhile brfore we see
that..
Most of the people that I know who are not fans of the left will be much
more respectful then we have seen the oppositon was to George Bush.
So...only time will tell.
I do agree that that type of attitude is disgusting...and we have seen it
plenty over the last 8 years.
Saul
---
Bush had policies and made statements that were easily attacked, that these
folks did not like, and that thereby easily lent themselves to ridicule..
Bad Policy, Bad Speech, Secretive Administration = Open for Attack... I hope
that the same attacks are made on any President that uses the Presidency as
this administration has... but that is not hatred... that is simply the
workings of a truly democratic country... hatred is personal... like calling
a person a terrorist when you know they are not, insisting they are Muslim
when you know they are not, saying they are unpatriotic when they are as or
more patriotic than most... all of that, is hatred... unfounded attacks
based on fabricated imaginings, that are personal in nature, is hatred...
I am speaking only to the group here, the arguments of which seems overly
vituperrious, without foundation, and seemingly quite hateful... I see far
less of that from the Obama supporters than I do from the Right.
I am indeed quite surprised at the level of this sort of fear mongering and
hate persisted in despite facts and debunking efforts.
>From my perspective, I have seen far more of the hate and fear without basis
on the one side of the debate than on the other.
Frankly it makes me sad to see that sort of thing, in my own country.
Have a great day!

One thing I tell REALTORS every day when talking about their websites is
that they need a website strategy...and hope is not a very good strategy.
"I hope someone will come to my website today."
"I hope I get leads from my website."
"I hope I can convert website leads into sales and commission checks."
"I hope my website helps me get more exposure for my listings."
A strategy requires a long term or broad view and then the tactics to
achieve the goals and objectives as described in the strategy."

No Saul, hope is not a strategy... it is a motivator, strategy comes later.
Have a great day!

PS: when I read your sub-post " Have a great day!", I want to cringe and think to myself> It would be better if it said; I am elite, I am Democrat, I know best, Hear me roar..<, but that's just me. Have a nice day

Maybe there should be a difference between hope with a "small h" versus Hope with a "LARGE H". I would argue that the inspiration offered by Dr. Martin Luther King that dreamed (and HOPED) for a time when a person would be judged by the content of their character, the vision to put a man on the moon envisioned by John F Kennedy, the democratic election blossoming from the quiet strength Nelson Mandela, and all such transformational events in world history possessed the element of HOPE. Hope without action and direction can certainly pave a path to no where. However, without HOPE, a path is never gets started at all!
To those gifted few who inspire others to HOPE, we all owe a debt of gratitude. Such figures come along far too infrequently. And when those figures are able to also mobilize others into taking positive action, to get up and DO SOMETHING TO HELP THEMSELVES AND OTHERS ... that ability should be applauded, not demeaned.
Paul, thank you for informing us all how many votes Obama won by. However,
we were established as a Republic and I assume you know the difference.
(champion of freedom & liberty) hmmm. we shall see. I am the last person who
is stopping him from doing his job at least until we find out what (his job)
is. Also, I did not realize my prior remarks were directed toward
un-congratulating those who voted for Obama, rather to clarify that there
are others, many others. Finally, perhaps that was president Bush's failure,
no partisans on his behalf went forth and asked for him to be allowed to "do
his job" in the beginning. this board lacks sufficient space to register the
bile and contempt he yet endures. Jim

Certainly, I should not speak to Saul's (or any other Person's) post. It
speaks for its self -- Jim Noblet
--- Well, at least in this country you are entitled to your opinion...
whether real or imagined.
As for knowing the difference between a Democracy and a Republic, yes, I
know the difference... see several of my previous posts during this long
election debate.
Have a great day!

Regardless of how any of us felt and voted, something amazing has happened to our country and it will continue, I am certain.
Over the past two days, I have paid particular attention to the mood of our country via newscasts, talk shows, personal conversations, written observations and more. Disclaimer: I am an older Caucasian and I typically fit the mold of a conservative. I do not, however, pigeonhole myself with any label such as Democrat or Republican. I actually voted a write-in this trip.
What I have been overwhelmingly feeling is that our country has started to go through a sudden and massive paradigm shift, the likes of which none of us have seen in our lifetime. I am seeing my Black friends smile more and speak with an excitement usually reserved for others. I have also seen the same changes in my Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian friends. The change is almost universal. At first, I was taken aback, not knowing what was actually happening. This morning, however, I have begun to understand it a little and I suspect many of you have had a similar experience. This is very real and universal. Something has changed, more than any of us expected.
When the Obama team spoke of change, it fell on deaf ears for me. I assumed that they were only speaking about the change from the last eight years of the Bush administration to one that would be completely different. When they referred to bringing unity to our country, I naturally assumed that they were referring to healing the rift between the two largest political parties. Forget politics, my friends. This is all about real life!
When I tell you that I have seen change, I am referring to the amazing and sudden change in the Black community that shows me without any doubt that the election of an African American to our nation's highest office has given a gift that will resound forever: It has given us all HOPE. I see it in the eyes of the Obama supporters interviewed on the TV. I see it in the eyes of my friends and I see it in the eyes of my own daughter who is at the age when she will be voting in a couple of years.
Hope. It is the most powerful emotion in the world. Give it and you give life and energy. Take it away and you have taken away life itself. Our country is filled with hope today. This is not because of WHO was elected. It was because an entire race suddenly became truly able to say "yes, we can." Am I imagining it, or does it seem like someone just turned on a light switch that we forgot was never turned on before - and suddenly everyone is allowed to be in the same light?
We have made tremendous strides in the past fifty years. I lived in the South for a time while growing up. I remember the segregation and distrust. I remember the horrible living conditions and the total discrimination. Much of that has been gone for some time now - not all, just much. What was never really changed, however, was the long history that kept the highest offices, best jobs and most opportunity for the old white guys like me and not for the Blacks or the Women.
I am sure that most of you are reading this and thinking" Man, he has gone off the deep end." Maybe I have, but I am happy to be there. I truly believe that we have crossed a chasm this week that has kept us on the side of "separate but equal." Now we will go forward with the new paradigm of "together and equal."
The change is real and it has little to do with politics. It has nothing to do with change in Washington. That will never change enough for most of us to be satisfied. Everything else has changed, suddenly, massively and forever.
The Unity is real too. It has nothing to do with politics either. Partisanship will have to wait. We have something much more significant going on here. It is the unity that our country can finally strive for as we can now say without doubt that we are all in this together.
All that being said. . . I just hope Barack is a good President.
Best to all,
JackH
Wow, Jack, that was absolutely awesome.... beautifully written.... and I agree wholeheartedly...
I am going to pass your post along to some friends (with your by-line)....
As a blue-eyed blonde, I've had it easy.... I don't think I ever applied for two jobs that I didn't get at least one of them..... black people (especially in the South) generally have to apply for 30-40 positions, and are lucky to get ONE job offer.... I have been in the workplace and have seen how those "black" applications were handled.... I've seen so much discrimination, years ago, and still today.... it's less now, but still there.
What so many people don't understand, is that black people want jobs, not hand-outs. Hand-outs are for the truly needy. Most people want the dignity of having a real job. There are exceptions, to be sure, but citing those exceptions as being typical is just plain wrong.
I'm still in awe at how preceptive you are, and how well you captured it....
