Kedda,
I have not heard one word about voter suppression, other than from a few of you here on RT. What are you talking about?

I asked one of my friends who serves on the local election Board and he says that in all the years he has been serving there has been no allegations of voter suppression that he is aware of. He said that, as in all states, all voters have to register to vote and show up at their assigned voting place, which is the one closest to where they live. He said that they need their voter registration card or an Official ID with a photo on it. He said that the poll workers are very careful about making certain that everyone registered is provided a ballot and instructions on how to vote. All they got to do is register, show up, and do their thing. In fact, when the polls close, all those standing in line (regardless how long the line is) is provided with a ticket that allows them in to vote regardless how long it takes. As long as the voter arrives prior to the official closing time of the polls, they still get to vote. How much fairer can you be than that.

We also have both early voting available for those who can not stand in line, or who will not be here on election day. We also have absentee voting for those who can not leave their homes to vote or who can not make it to the polls on election day or while the early voting is going on. Again, how can one claim there is any type of voter suppression.

I will say that for the past several years we have seen our share of people who are stuffing the ballot box by registering dead people. And two years ago we had the main person who was in charge of overseeing a polling place in her lower income neighborhood have her neighbor stand in for her at the polls while the person who was suppose to be there went to New York and was seen standing in the crowd when she was suppose to be in Memphis doing what she was paid to do. In all of these situations it has been a Democrat who was pulling the fast one. Go figure.

Want to take a chance on more of the same??  Vote Obama.... now thats more of the same...

As I have said before in what seems like a hundred pages of posts ago..the only change Obama will bring  will be more of the same but worse...  You can NOT tell me that in his short, somewhat unsavory and questionable career you are absolutely CLEAR and confident he will PROTECT YOU, your fellow Americans and our Constitution.  I definately am clear that Senator McCain will.

Their tax plans,  their platform for getting us out of the financial crisis, their foreign policy is all a mute point and subject to change based on a current crisis and the situations surrounding the crisis.  Any executive will tell you that... I have been there...  I participated in the choices that had to be made and sometimes what appeared might work one day wouldn't be possible the next.  The S&L days gave me a very huge education as I was an officer of a large Illinois S&L... because the govt reniged on their promise to let us write off losses after taking over failed S&L's, which they encouraged us to do,  we were no longer considered capitalized, which made our take over by a bank inevitable...  My point is though,  our plan was to become solvent... but how we would get there was always adjusting and we would have made it but the Fed's kept giving us a shorter and shorter amount of time to do it.

Unfortunately, I have resigned myself to the fact that McCain will most likely not win..  I am thankful that McCain will retain his Senator post and continue to support his Country as he always has. And I believe he is capable, far better than his opponent, to surround himself with the right people to do it.  No man is an island unto himself but every man surrounds himself with the people that have the same values and ethics and character as he does...  B.O. (hum) has professed to hang out with a known terrorist, an anti American Reverend and a questionable organization such as ACORN..... that is FACT... and  is enough for me...

Both versions are true mostly. Most states ban paying by the head for voter
registration...so ACORN pays hourly. However if you don't produce the
required number of registrations per day you get fired.

In many states ACORN has no choice but to turn in all registrations
received. They claim to have labeled any unlikely ones as possible fraud
but still have to turn them in.

I, for one, root like mad for Obama and a 60 plus demo Senate majority.
Considering the degree to which the Republicans have screwed the country up
we need a strong change without the opposition being able to block the
needed changes.

The neo-cons had their chance and screwed up beyond belief. Why on earth
would you want to allow them to block the needed changes?

Editor's Note
In California, we have ballot initiatives. My policy is that if I am not knowledgable about the initiative, I do not vote on it. I also know many people who know little or who have been mislead by adds, do vote on these initiatives. The result is poor legislation by ballot initiative. So, all the hype abouty getting everyone to vote. I don't think everyone voting is necessarily a good thing. I think it should be quality and not quantity.Saul

When it comes to politics one needs to go on experience, and knowledge and make very sure they know what they are stating. Do not believe until you see with your own eyes. I really do not want emails about politics or Barrack Obama period.

Ok, let's see....

Oct 13, Win Singleton stated. "There have been some who insist that Barack Obama was part of ACORN, but that just isn't true. He was never an ACORN community organizer, trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity."

I pointed out that in March 2004 Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN leader and a member of ACORN's National Association Board, in an article published in "Social Policy", stated just the opposite.

On Oct 18 after reading about these two variations of the "truth", Paul Silver writes, "Who cares? ACORN is a community organizing group... they have their faults, like every other group, but in themselves they do nothing wrong or untoward... saying they do does not make it so...

On Oct 17, Paul Silver wrote: "Seems to be confusion over what has happened... ACORN hired canvassers...part time contract workers, who they paid by the registration form completed, and some of these canvassers faked forms to get more money... "

I pointed out that on October 11, 2008, Maryellen Hayden, ACORN's head in Allegheny County said that, ""canvassers are paid by the hour, not by the card, so there is no incentive for them to falsify cards,"

Now today Paul Silver writes: <snip>"I don't discount what members of ACORN say in public, in fact, the national director was on CNN yesterday, where she explained what the issues were regarding what you call voter registration fraud... seems ACORN hired
canvassers to recruit and register new voters. They were paid by ACORN per registration."

Later in the same email Paul states, "If you don't like objective data sources, I can't help you."

I do have to agree with something Paul states in one of his most recent emails, "Did any of us ever learn critical thinking skills, or are we just zombies taking whatever any one says as if it were true..."

I don't know about the rest of you folks...but I certainly agree with Saul. "My greatest political fear is that the Democrats obtain a filibuster proof Senate majority, maintain control of the House, and Obama is elected President. No checks and balances."

What a frightening scenario!

I was so upset I called the FBI and accused the attorney and ACORN of attempted extortion. I quickly learned that HUD years ago and helped arrange a special legislation that extended a one of a kind protection to ACORN and their attorneys from lawsuits related to their "testing" and bringing lawsuits for discriminating practices as well as for their legal counsel. I was told that they are the only private organization in the country that has this protection.

Just to set the record straight, we were not being charged with steering. We were being charged with discrimination in our advertising because they said we did not include enough minorities pictured in our marketing pieces. As reported earlier, certain assumptions were made by those involved and they had evidently never investigated by reviewing our marketing programs. But that did not stop them from filing the lawsuits and then trying to extort us. And as I reported, they seemed to only be interested in the number of African American photos included in our marketing and not at all about the other minorities.

My guess, they were more interested in what you were willing to pay (extort) to get them to go away, than the number of African Americans in your marketing pieces.

Lisa,
. I have never called you or your home in my entire life. I think that
you should be prepared to explain these accusations and provide proof. If
you are truly receiving phone calls, then someone is pretending be me.
. Your arguments against Sarah Palin are ridiculous.

I would like to see yours.

Have a great day!

Paul,
The possibility for voter roll purge errors exists in every state as
discussed in the article below:
http://www.brennancenter.org/content/resource/voter_purges.
The article also discusses ways to safeguard against theses errors.
Bona

---

Yes it does... but it has been most problematic in the states of Florida,
Colorado, and Ohio over the past two elections, and looks to be continuing
to be an issue in those states again...

I assume you think that performing these sorts of purges is at least as
heinous as fake registrations?

The issue I have with it is that the fake registrations are being attributed
wrongfully to direct actions on the part of ACORN, when all informed people,
including the regulators, realize that it was not ACORN who did the deeds,
but contract employees, and that ACORN is the one who turned those folks in
and brought attention the issue in the first place... they did nothing
wrong, and have never been found to have done anything wrong, after several
investigations by Bush admin officials... cleared of all charges each
time... but made to look bad on purpose.

So I assume that perpetrators of illegal voter roll purges should face the
same consequences you would have ACORN face, and should have the same
scrutiny brought to bear, yes?

Paul,

The FBI is investigating ACORN in 13 states. I will be interested to see what facts come from their investigation.

Of course, anyone tampering with the election process should be held accountable.

To day in the LA Times was an article about the following:

Dozens of newly minted Republican voters say they were duped into joining the party by a GOP contractor with a trail of fraud complaints stretching across the country. Voters contacted by The Times said they were tricked into switching parties while signing what they believed were petitions for tougher penalties against child molesters.

It is a bait-and-switch scheme familiar to election experts. The firm hired by the California Republican Party a small company called Young Political Majors, or YPM, which operates in several states has been accused of using the tactic across the country.

Election officials and lawmakers have launched investigations into the activities of YPM workers in Florida, and Massachusetts. In Arizona, the firm was recently a defendant in a civil rights lawsuit.

Acorn or YPM it is both dirt.

"No one is allowed to vote unless they are properly registered. "

That doesn't necessarily mean much. My daughter was registered to vote in CT, where she grew up, while she was in College and first working in DC. She moved to VA several years ago and registered to vote there. Apparently VA never notified CT to take her off the roles here because anytime I have voted since she registered in VA; I have still seen her name on the voter list above mine. So she is registered in 2 states and could technically vote twice. I have told the people working the polls and have been told that VA has to notify CT.
