Paul said:  "The organization is not a bad thing and its goals are worthy of support from both parties, unless I suppose you disagree with helpingdisadvantaged people get a voice and start in life, and think that they should be without representation, as with other interest groups".

Jacquie, how is this an "unwarranted, snide personal attack" ?
That's what ACORN does, it helps the low and very low income people survive in many, many ways.... not just voting registration, because they do so much more than that...
To condemn a group, with mostly altruistic motives, is refusing to acknowledge that they are needed.

Mr Hathaway was accused by ACORN for steering (if I understood correctly, and I can see where he felt he did nothing wrong, and very possibly he didn't),.... he beat the case, but has an obvious bias on this subject of ACORN.

In Houston, we have a huge low-income segment, yet most all of our politicians are wealthy, out-of-touch, and they simply don't understand how many families have to choose between paying the very high electric bills or paying for mandated car insurance or whatever... a fragile existance. I've been in many of their homes, they make do with very little...  Okay, some may abuse the system, but for every one of those, there are 99 trying to just hold it together.

First of all, I hope I am not posting the below email in duplicate. I found out today that amazingly, somehow my email address was "blacklisted". Now, that has never happen before. I finally got it corrected. Have any of you ever had this happen? I'm stumped.

Oh, if you saw it on Fox you might believe it? You can dismiss the article if you like because you don't like where it was found. Just like we all know in real estate, a picture IS worth a thousand words. But facts are facts! Go look at the several photos of notable Republicans, incuding your candidate, John McCain, if you want to see for youself whether I'm "bending" the truth here.

Unfortunately, rather than trying to determine for yourself if this whole story about how bad ACORN is merely part of the Republican "spin" machine, your response is one of, " The Republican 'take' on this story must be correct. So don't try to confuse me with the facts - my minds made up."

Why, Mr. Singleton, I do believe you are accusing me of the same thing of which you are guilty. Anyone can turn on the TV or search the internet and find a view or article that matches their own beliefs.

However, you stated in your post on Oct 13, "There have been some who insist that Barack Obama was part of ACORN, but that just isn't true. He was never an ACORN community organizer, trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity."

Mr. Singleton, in March, 2004 Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN leader and a member of ACORN's National Association Board, in an article published in "Social Policy", stated that:

<snip> "Obama started building the base years before. For instance, ACORN noticed him when he was organizing on the far south side of the city with the Developing Communities Project. He was a very good organizer. When he returned from law school, we asked him to help us with a lawsuit to challenge the state of Illinois refusal to abide by the National Voting Rights Act, also known as motor voter. Allied only with the state of Mississippi, Illinois had been refusing to allow mass-based voter registration according to the new law. Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar (the name of the Republican governor at the time) and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5000 of them).

Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus, it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for State Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends." <snip> Here is a .PDF file of the entire article.

Which version of the truth is valid? Yours and Senator Obama's or Toni Foulkes. I'm confused.

As I state to you in a post to you on Oct. 13th, <snip>"Win, you may want to expand your search for non-partisan sources. I attempt to research all sides of important issues and then decide what is fact and what is fiction....an extremely difficult task at times."

Once again, you may want to expand your search for non-partisan sources. Try it. You may find it rewarding.

Well, I better get back to work, or I may need someone's elses wealth re-distributed in my direction. ;-)

RE: Sarah Palin Lisa says: ..McCain made a bad choice and it backfired. And, please, don't call me at home again to argue your points….

Lisa,

  • I have never called you or your home in my entire life. I think that you should be prepared to explain these accusations and provide proof. If you are truly receiving phone calls, then someone is pretending be me.
  • Your arguments against Sarah Palin are ridiculous.

To add to the points Paul has made so accurately

The list of leading republicans who have announced they cannot support McCain because of his choice of Palin grows daily. Among others it includes, George Will, David Brooks, Chris Buckley, Peggy Noonan, Michelle Laxalt, and likely Colin Powell who is expected to announce his support for Obama on Meet the Press on Sunday morning.

The reason that people are so disturbed is that elections are the foundation
of a democratic society. ACORN workers have tampered with the election
process. Every citizen should be outraged.

Paul says: What are your thoughts on voter roll purges, as are happening under
Republican administrations in Florida, Colorado, and Ohio, as we speak?

Paul,

The possibility for voter roll purge errors exists in every state as discussed in the article below:

http://www.brennancenter.org/content/resource/voter_purges.

The article also discusses ways to safeguard against theses errors.

The voter rolls are so screwed up that we should purge the entire process and re register everyone. We promote that in 3rd world countries why not here. My deceased wife (1992) and my ex (1999) who lives in CA are still on the rolls. Democrats don't like it. Remember "vote early and often" in Cook County.

Kedda Keough says:

This won't have any impact on the election. No one is allowed to vote unless they are properly registered. And there is no evidence of false registrations actually leading to organized voting fraud.

I am much more concerned about voter suppression, which seems a much graver insult to democracy, but that may be just me.

Kedda

And if ACORN would stop trying to stuff the ballot box with unqualified ineligible voters there would be no need to review voter lists for fraudulent ineligible voters.

Why do we hear every election cycle of "dead voters"? Amazing isn't it!!!

<<But even so, what is wrong with a lawyer representing a client? You have an issue with that? That would be like me having an issue with you selling a house. Because you sell houses, does that make you a bad person?

Personally, I hope you sell many houses, and develop a reputation for good work, and use that reputation to do good things for people, including yourself. Paul Silver, Esq.>>

Paul, this is like so many things involving politicians. It may not be the act itself that is so bad (or even not bad at all), but it is the "cover up" that nails them. Obama has said publicly, on TV (I have witnessed this) and elsewhere first that he had no relationship now or previously with ACORN. Then later he said he had never worked for ACORN in any capacity. Then later he said that he had once represented ACORN in a lawsuit that was actually brought by the Justice Department. In fact, we now find that Obama has been very involved with ACORN for years. Anyone with any experience with the special relationship ACORN has with the Justice Department knows that when ACORN brings a lawsuit, the Justice Department is required to assist because federal funds are provided ACORN for these prosecutions. I know because I have been there, done that, and gotten the T-Shirt.

So what it all boils down to is, can we trust Obama who has obviously lied about is involvement with ACORN, now that ACORN is caught up in this voter registration fraud investigation? I think an honest person running for President of the United States would have been well advised to have told the truth from day one and not try to separate himself from ACORN with lies.

Jule Russell has interesting and curious question:

"Can someone tell me why it is OK for the group "Acorn" to endorse the the Democratic ticket? This has really been bothering me considering they receive public monies to help register people."

You don't get it Jule, ACORN is an affiliate of the Democratic Party just like the NEA is an affiliate of the Democratic Pary!  You see you don't have to be card carrier in the democratic party you just have to go along with the boneheaded share the wealth ideology.  So allow me to ask this question. How do we define the Middle Class?  We know the Poor are those who can't afford.  And we know the wealthy have no lack, but what is the Middle Class?  Which camp do they lean more toward?  The Poor or the Wealthy?  It's the same thing as asking what is an Independent?  What is Non-Partison?  What is middle of the road?  What is Bi-Partison?  Can we compromise our values (two steps forward one step back)?  Maybe we should ask ourselves what is WEALTH?  Is it based on Debt?  Is it based on more Money?  Is it based on Assets accumulated?  Or is based on Debt accumulated?   Do we measure our Wealth by our IRS tax return or do we measure our wealth by our leverage to accumulate more stuff, weather it be Real Property or Personal Property?  Do we value our career at the expense of others or do we value our career at the expenses of our investments?  If we could all do it the way Warren Buffet does it we just invest our money in return on the investment idiology and nobody has to go to work, at least Warren doesn't.  You see eventually America will have to go back to work and start producing what is necessary to survive.  If we don't we will be purchased lock stock and barrel by foreign interests such as the Greater Global Community (Europeans, Middle and Far Easterners).   So what is ACCORN?  It's a community based organization that gets in your face.  Just look at the usual suspects and their target market!  Whether its "get out the vote" or "affordable housing programs" they rap themselve in the Flag as they do their bidding much like Planned Parent Hood and all these other benevolant organizations that have a bleeding heart for the Unaffordable.  Don't get me wrong the Poor need our help but not at the expense of the Whole!  Because that is what is happening we are all becoming Wards of the State.  That is what the Federal Reserve was designed for, although that's not we are told.  We are told the Federal Reserve was designed so we could avoid all this misery!  Yea Right!
