I just read in the June edition of Texas REALTOR Magazine that MS Outlook could send a Text message to my mobile phone when I receive a lead from my website.

Can anyone elaborate on how to set this up in Outlook?

Thanks.

To Jim:

I have Outlook setup to do exactly that. It looks for certain emails that come in telling me that I have received a fax and when it sees that it sends me a text message notifying me that I have received a fax. It's under Rulers and Alerts in Outlook.

Couple of things you need to know first: what is your cellphone email address? I have cell service with Verizon so my cellphone email address is myphonenumber@vtext.com. Now sending a message to that number costs me $0.25 a pop because I do not have a text messaging plan. If you have a messaging plan then it's covered under that part of you service. If you don't know your cellphone email address, you'll have to get in touch with your carrier.

All the rest of the setup process is fairly straight forward.

Jim..your e-mail address came back as invalid. Anyway, here is what I wrote to you regarding your question:

I am assuming you are talking about outlook and not outlook express. The steps to do it are simple.

Go to one of our e-mail leads, and right click on the lead and click on create a rule. When the message arrives, you can have it forwarded to your phone. Your address will be whatever it is set up with your phone company. For me, my text message address with Verizon is: 7329958249@vtext.com . Once you create the rule it will start texting you the leads as they come in. You can set that rule up with other e-mail that you need as well.

I hope that helps.

Have and incredible day! It is a good life!

The answer here is to two different questions.

First, anyone with email can send a Text message to any of the carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) customers. For example, if you want to send a Text message to someone on AT&T's system, you email to is: ##########@txt.att.net. Just replace the ### with the person's cell phone number. By sending from your email, you don't pay Text message charges but the recipient does as its a normal Text message to them. Contact each carrier to learn what their unique email address is for their customers to receive Text messages.

The second part of your question is how can you set this up in Outlook. Its just a simple Message Rule. Go to Tools / Rules and Alerts and set up an email message rule that recognizes when leads come from your website. Have Outlook send an email to the Text email address for your cell phone.
